getting a raise at work

If you worked at a company for almost 5 and a half years what do you think on average you would possibly be making by now… just a rough estimate?

that is way too broad a question, we talking flipping burgers at mcdonalds or building nuclear reactors? realy depends on the feild of work.

lets say assembly/labor work that involves some (welding, assembling, painting, electrical)

13 bucks an hour

What do you do?

Is there a general level of education needed?

have you progressed?

Its such a loaded question with no info on the industry

i really was trying to leave the company out of it, i know a few members know where i work…Im in a pretty pissed of position because i get paid terrible and my friend just got a new job and told my boss he will be leaving soon and … then my boss wanted to work out a raise or someway to keep him. he said na f that … So since my raises the last few years have been pretty pretty low i figured i see what he would say. Which led to a complete no because the economy is bad and all this other bs. I really dont plan on staying there that much longer seeing my degree is criminal justice but when you have 20k student loan and a few other bills getting paid what I do sucks espicaly being there five years and working pretty hard at your job. Which involved assembly and working on a 100 to 200,000 dollar machines.

Is the company making money?

please stay in school

Yea sounds about right, I have a few friends doing the same thing…they make between $13-15/hr. I don’t see that type of job having a huge type of raise or yearly increase. If I were you I would try to become a specialist in one of the fields you mentioned like welding or electrical. There are alot of “jack of all trades guys” out there and these companies know they can replace your position with a lower rate newbie if need be.

yes…this year is one of its best years…it is a up and down market

sounds like you work for Derrick manufacturing. lol If this is the case, then you need to take your training elsewhere if you wanna make good money.

ya they hired a few guys …first guy plays the harmonica second day on the job , he thought i could use a little music . second new guy called a bolt a screw

:snky:

Hahaha, sounds like a good work force…but to your company they are just two more guys that can get the job done for less pay. If you aren’t happy look elsewhere, there are jobs out there.

ya, two more retards to me pretty much and believe me they are almost close to what i make thats the best part. I have been trying to land a job in my degree but its a pain, but for right now I really would like a decent back up job or something that I can actually make money. The only good thing about my job i can work up to 75 hours a week but after sixty sucks.

Certain departments make a certain amount of money there. Most of which don’t really increase in pay. I know the machine shop guys have the best potential for moving up the pay scale.

Please work faster. There is a massive pile of very expensive shit sitting in my warehouse waiting for Derrick to release it. This is taking up valuable space that my customers material could be occupying. Thanks.

ya I worked there for a week and I wanted to kill myself, i couldnt stand doing nothing. watching a machine make a part for a half in hour was way to boring. Im more hands on and mechanical but i guess that means nothing according to my boss who called me a unskilled worker and other things … Im just in a rant that he would offer my friend more pay which we do the same job if he would stay but yet I ask and get a cocky attitude back when I usually always give 100% effort.

lol… sorry dont make enough and im unskilled

Depends on many things…
What is your work ethic like? Are you late or early, eager to take on added responsibilities? What is your attitude when asked to do things? Are you proactive about asking for new tasks? etc…
What skill level/education does the job require? Usually the harder work is done by those that make peanuts and the bigger checks go to those with the degrees or skilled trade knowledge.
Is the company profitable and in a position to give out big raises?

Look at GM giving hourly workers $4k bonus this year. YAY. Instead of paying anything back the holders of the old stock that they raped they are giving money to the workers. God Bless America. LOL

Honestly if it’s not your career and you’re not making enough…

Move on if you can make more somewhere else

Well, there are a lot of unemployed people out there looking for unskilled worker positions. It’s unfortunate but you are probably easily replaced.

Are you going to take the Buffalo Police test since you are in criminal justice?
