Awesome turn out yesterday. I felt bad for the guy in the green two stroke diesel truck who was trying to leave while the cop was parked in the middle of the exit aisle. He was just standing outside of the cruiser blatantly blocking traffic.
Wow, YoY and this event really got out of hand.
Charging a fee will surely eliminate the riff raff (read: Subaru’s and Nocturnal bro’s)
I’d gladly pay north of $10 (to charity) to enjoy a classy event with high end auto’s.
Hopefully this doesn’t go away.
I don’t see what the problem was… I left Niagara County at 745am and got there around 815am… Lot was empty. Might have been 4 cars there?
I enjoyed seeing the 94 Toyota Corolla that parked across from me, just a reminder why I stop going to shit like this. It’ll get ruined like every other car function.
I was drooling over the AM Vanquish that was there. I really didn’t get to see everything the place was so packed.
Is that who I think it is?
He goes there and tried to hit up all the Corvette guys for business.
I usually go there and tell them all to avoid him…Someone this week actually messaged me on FB they have been waiting on a tune for him over a month and asked if I would do it.
@cougarspeed :lol:
I saw you & waved. All good considering the shit storm.
Backlogged lol. TOO MANY CARS, WAY TOO BUSY!!!
Damn I got sasquach footage and didn’t even know
I walked right by him 2x!
I think that the charity idea is a good one…
Subarus and 350zs with no front bumpers and the Jeep crew rolling in like they owned the place and just opting to head up on to the grassy knoll kind of told me that this was going to be the end of something that I really enjoy.
The amount of enthusiasm for this is impressive, but like most things, good intentions do not equal good results.
I would be in for $10-$20 donations to have a spot and better cars to look at.
Once a month $20 might cut back on a lot of idiots
$20 buys a lot of vape juice and monster energy drinks
Especially in the 3rd week…those first of the month checks are long gone by then.
Benderson we tried this before with him doesn’t work
Perhaps if a lot could be negotiated that doesn’t have any amenities, maybe the Rollin Joe coffee truck could be contacted
I had a conversation with a friend while I was there along the same lines.
I parked what would have been quite out of the way last year only to find my car jammed in this year. Oh well. My son had a fun time and that’s all that matters to me.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support of the event, the emails and texts I have received in light of Sunday’s event have been truly overwhelming. I would like to clear a lot of things up, and assure everyone that I am working to get everything solved for next month’s event. Much of what I am thinking or hearing from attendees has already been voiced here in previous posts, the event simply was way too large for the Orchard Fresh parking lot, and things got out of hand rather quickly.
To start everything off, I in no way against the OPPD’s actions on Sunday, or their decision to end the event early. The event was endangering not only our own attendees, but the safety of the store patrons trying to go about their own lives. We had over 75 cars blocking fire lanes, handicap spots, ATM lanes, and some vehicles not even on paved ground. Had something happened where Emergency Personnel needed to respond, they would have a hell of a time and that is unacceptable (This was my error) We have all seen the videos from other Cars and Coffee events, that many cars and people, nothing good was going to come when everyone decided to leave on their own, the event did need to end at that point. Once everyone had left I met with some higher ups, and several different officers where a general consensus was arrived at that we no longer can have the event in this location, from their tone I would say most likely not in Orchard Park. I am being fined by the town, and will have more details moving forward. Several people have stepped forward to offer assistance both legally / monetarily, I truly appreciate that
My biggest concerns over the event however were not the police however, I was more so concerned over the people attending the event. As mentioned above, the group of Jeeps that decided it would be best to park on wet grass that ended up putting large ruts in that yard (the police advised me I would be covering the cost to have those repaired since the damage happened as a result of my event) Rite Aid reported that several individuals entered the store, and proceeded to steal drinks and then walk out the door. The individuals that when I kindly asked them to move their vehicles into the available spaces that told me to f*** off and leave them alone, and the people that got onto the roof of the building at some point during the event all truly should have been there, that is not at all what we are about. The entire premise of Cars and Coffee is to have a meet up where we don’t have to run into this kind of crap that plagues all the other events, so that really upset me to see my event being attended and associated with this kind of immature antics.
I won’t say much about some of the cars that attended, simply put there were cars there that should not have been there, they have already been pointed out.
Cars and Coffee moving forward: What do we do now? That is the question that has come up in every conversation since roughly 9:00am Sunday, and right now I don’t have an answer. We no longer have Orchard Fresh as an option for any size event, so we need to look elsewhere. A lot of suggestions have been made, and I have been compiling them all, they will each be reviewed to see which one will be the best fit for the event, and that will be our new location put simply. I am meeting with several other minds to collaborate this weekend on new options, the parking lot and the food are the easier parts of the equation. With a pared down group of 200 or so cars, and a food truck most parking lots at first seem like a great option. The hard part is bathrooms and town / plaza ownership, between those two most large plazas can be crossed off the list. Currently there are several locations being worked on behind the scenes, the Pegulas are working with us to come up with a proposal along with staff members from the Larkin Building, as well as several other parking areas throughout the region.
More information will be available in due time, however I think this sheds some light on my last set of posts regarding liabilities for myself and the concerns I have with continuing the event. No one else had to meet with the police get fined besides myself, and nothing truly terrible even happened. Had something bad happened, this would be a much different story. I’m looking at this as a much needed restructure, and I look forward to working with the administration and members of NYSpeed to make the next location and event better than ever.
Well, seeing that you are being fined, that sucks. I would have no problem pitching in some bucks at the next event to help cover the fees. Please whatever location you pick, put up a general guideline for cars that you’d allow to attend. No hoopties, no junk, no winter cars, etc, etc.
Matt,
Just give a shout out if you need financial assistance. I would gather even a gofundme page could cover your costs and perhaps put some $ in to the bank for future C&C events.
I do have a thought if you could figure a way to do it. Find a parking garage/ramp. This would mandate that you must have a spot to attend. It would be shaded, which is nice for some of us as the temps keep rising. Of course, the restrooms/food/beverages could become a challenge with this, but I am betting there will be pros and cons to each option presented.
I really do think that a donation to attend would be a positive move in sorting those that want to attend a better event, vs those that want the cruise nights that can be found any night of the week.
