consider the facts, the bible is historicly correct: it said citys and places were there and scientists dug the ground and there it was, if you also look in roman history books it talks about so much the bible says, every culture in the world talks about a GREAT flood, as does the bible, also think of this, the deciples had what to gain from preaching what jesus said? they were all died a marters death except for john, they were pulled in half by horses, hung, crucified, used for sport against lions, they had nothing to gain but death and ridicule. the only reason they had was they saw what no other profet, god, person, or anyone had ever done, they witnessed jesus die and come back to life after three days… that was there only leg to stand on other than there faith, and in this world faith is easily destroyed if we don’t have a great reason or personal experience… just my 0.02$
hey??? how did you modify my quote, you, you, your good…
it’s because I am god. :D:D:D
to me, the bible is nothing more than a story. It’s a story that has changed a million times over the years and changed by all the translations that were made of it. If someone wants to read it and live by it, good for you. I won’t base my life on a work of fiction though. my $.02
also the most stolen book. Ironic, true fact.

nice try though
go back to your cult(aka religon) and get back to me when you realize it’s all just a bunch of BS.
dude??? where do you get these facts? you get the craziest facts and stuff i have ever heard of. you are my hero!!!
Ok… I think this topic has strayed a bit.
What exactly are you looking for in a religion? My feeling, the most important thing about church, next to the teachings and sermons, is the people. Generaly speaking, people in churchs will always put their hand out to help you. Shake your hand upon metting, hold the door to let you in. It is one of the most relaxing places to be.
So what exactly are you looking for? Do you want to meet people? Do you want to learn more about God? Do you want to be a part of the community or a community group?
I am not a church goer, but when I do go to church, it is calm and safe. I took my kids to Sunday school for about a year, they loved it. But if you are looking to participate in something productive, there are many mentoring programs at churchs and other places.
My opinion: you can’t go wrong with this decision. Go to a church, whichever you pick, if you don’t like what they are doing, go to another one. I don’t think you can learn what religion you like by reading the Bible. Each religion interprets the bible in it’s own form. The Bible itself only says one thing, then catholics say it means this, and protestants say it means that… so on…
I don’t know if all that was helpful, but I hope it was…:blue:
actually it is onlly simple logic… if there are more of them out there then there are more to steal.
Plus people steal them from the Hotels all the time.
That is true to a point. Catholics and Protestants agree on many things in the Bible. They differ on some issues, but none of them argue about who Jesus was, and what he did for those who trust in him for salvation.
If you want to know the differences between denominations, read about Martin Luther, John Calvin and some general church history. I took a class on it at Pitt Greensburg and was fascinated at how much I did not know, even having grown up in the church, attending nearly every Sunday. I learned a lot in that class and would highly recommend it.
very true but catholics are based in old testament teachings. there is no reason to confess your sins to a preist today or have to swear to be catholic and to raise your kids catholic to get married in a catholic church. My Fiance doesn’t want our wedding in her families church because of the classes and promises you have to make when we both know full well we won’t do it that way. a preist is no closer to God that I am including the pope, etc.
I also too a religion class and learned much about religions of the world in an unbiased atmosphere. buddists and muslims are nuts most others I can see their point. Mormans are out there too with the belief the son of God is from utah, but it does make you understand and respect most religious points of view
nowhere in the bible does it say to pray to mary.
Thats right kurt.
My feelings are, theres to much government and organization developed by man in a catholic church. There are a lot of extra rules, and a system that envolves of the input of many other people. I should not, and will never ask permission from my church to do anything. My life is to be decided and worked out between the big guy and myself. I have no problem consulting a pastor, but no way is a priest or some other “higher up” guy going to decide my life for me. A church as large as the Catholic church is a worrysome thing. It becomes its own animal, and begins to worry about its own priorities, and keeping itself alive. Theres a whole chain of people that have to be taken care of. The church is about fellowship with your peers, not creating a governmental system. Also, the catholic church is full of idols as far as I’m concerned. Catholic churches are full of statues and other “engraven images”, medallions etc. No where in the bible is this type of thing ok, for any reason, good intentions or not.
Another thing that really bothers me is relentless history the catholic church has for offerings(the priests would make deals with the big guy to get out of pergatory early if you give XX amount of money…they have to keep that animal fed you know, the pope mobile needs new rims!!). I’ve been witness to priests really pushing hard to give above and beyond your tithe even if its going to put in you poor house from what they were saying. I relate this to the scum televangelists that try and scam the old people out of their money as well.
I could go on and on here, but it’s time for dinner.
the rules in the catholic church are part to blame on society. as the church and state were once one. so yeah, it is going to have some rules.
thank you for the gross understatement.
i like men… so count me in the cath. religion
I’m a Catholic and my family has been Catholic forever. Doesn’t mean I, or my family, follows all of the “rules”. Seems to be old Catholics and new Catholics. I don’t go to confession for reasons stated before. I only give what I can and don’t stretch myself because the priest doesn’t need a $40k car. Anyways, back on topic.
My mom took the classes, etc. to convert to Catholicism to marry my dad. Not because she wasn’t happy with her religion or anything. I asked her about the classes, and she said alot of it was stupid (ie…how the wife is to act). The rest of it was just a history lesson.
I personally think whatever roof you’re under is fine. I think religion is needed to give you a guideline to follow. Some order and goals to reach in life.
My $.02
in actuality that is a sin
if you’re refering that its a sin in catholicism, you’re wrong. it is not a sin to pray to mary. it is a sin to worship her.
to the original post. if you are interested in becoming a catholic, you have to go through a program called r.c.i.a. its nothing major. some classes, discussions, etc. after completing that, you will be baptised at the easter mass. easter is used because catholics, like most christians put that “holiday” above all else in importance.
i agree with most others, do some research. you’re going to find with most religions that you might not agree with everything, buts its the bottom line on what they are saying and how the churhc makes you feel.
i was born and raised ctholic. i went to a catholic grade school and high school. do i believe in everything the church tries to tell me? hell no.
frankly, there is a lot of bullshit they try to float down the pike after all these years. but its the basis of what they are saying is what i believe. actually, that basis is the base of what most christian religions teach.
and no, you don’t have to convert if you marry someone catholic. and the whole confession deal? yeah, haven’t seen me in a confessional since jr. high. my take is, why go through the middle man?
and yes, please do go to a few different churches of a any faith that you may be interested in. esp catholic. you’d be very suprised on how different parishes can be, and how so different priests can be. which can be all the difference in making your choice in whatever religion you choose.
and sammy, you saying that 95% of priests are gay is like me saying 95% miinsters, pastors, and preahcers are complete loons, crazy and thiefs because of pat robertson.
