do i need to run the charcoal canister on ls-vtec turbo setup?
I’m no Honda guy, but probably not. There are a few things to consider though.
The point of them is to absorb gas fumes from the tank when the car is off, then purge them back into the intake system using vacuum pressure when the car is running. It’s really just there as another environmental control and isn’t performance related. If you have a bad canister or bad vac lines it could actually hurt performance.
Without the system there might be some fumes vented to the atmosphere, but that depends on your specific vehicle.
You also have to consider if you plan on storing the car for long periods of time. Without the canister your fuel will “go bad” faster. The canisters also keep condensation out of the gas tank, which in turn keeps your fuel from getting contaminated with water or even rust if your gas tank starts to oxidize from the condensation.
Some people with Z’s remove them to make things less complex, clean up the bay, etc. But somewhere out there some engineer thought it was a good idea to have them in cars, so it’s one of those things that I’m going to keep in mine.
thanks man.
great info.
your gunna need that breather box on the back of your block unless you plan on capping the giant holes in the block and running lines to a breather box…you dont have the run the lines back to your intake mani, run them to the ground.
i was gunna run a breather box. just needed to know if i could get rid of the evap canister
yea i wanna kno the same question but for my mustang too
dump the evap
will do
sorry nvm, dont run the evap its a waste of space
I removed it on all of my neons. I never noticed any more gas smell, it saved about 2 pounds or so, and it made the car less cluttered.
just run the line out to the back of the car via rubber hose and zip ties.
ur gonna get a mil light though if ur running stock ecu and not a standalone system that dosnet run a monitor for evap
Will the evap can put a gs-r ecu into some sort of limp mode if something is wrong with it? Or even a check engine light?
yes if ur evap system monitor senses a problem ur check engine light will go on after a few trips and your car will be in open loop ur car does not read any of ur 02 sensors and will run on preset maps
I think you’re wrong.
There’s only a few specific codes that will throw your ecu into open loop or “limp” mode. Hell, on the the old obd-I ecus, the transistor that controller the evap circuit on the ecu itself was very prone to shorting out, and the car would be unaffected besides the obvious check engine light.
the evap code wont put it into a limp mode, i know that a map sensor code will though.
limp mode and open loop are not the same
isnt the evap on civic/tegs on or near the gas tank?
the canister is in the engine compartment
OK agreed. Fixed.
