Cheat… Speeding Tickets

Get caught speeding? Improve your chances of contesting the ticket by keeping your mouth shut once pulled over. You don’t want to be impolite, but when the officer asks, “Do you know why I pulled you over,” he’s looking for you to admit guilt, so play respectful, but dumb. According to PayNoFine.com, nearly half of all contested tickets are dismissed, ruled not guilty, or given a reduced fine.

Periodically call the officer’s precinct to find out which days he or she is on duty, then schedule a court date for the officer’s day off. It might help to reschedule a couple of times, just to wrench the works. Also, if possible, PayNoFine also recommends scheduling your court date later in the week, preferably a Friday afternoon, when the clerk sees fewer visitors and is concerned more with casting fishing lines than administering traffic fines. Cheat… Speeding Tickets (Part 2)

In larger metropolitan areas, if you get a citation for speeding or anything else that doesn’t involve a wreck or some kind of misdemeanor, you can easily get it reduced with no points. How? No. 1: Plead not guilty! Even if you were testing to see if your car goes as fast as your speedometer says it does, still plead not guilty.

Next, you’ll be brought before a judge. Still plead not guilty. He’ll rule that you pay at least the amount of your ticket, blah, blah, blah. Then you’ll go meet the district attorney—this is where the fun begins. Because actually going to court costs so much, (especially over a mere traffic citation) generally what they’ll do is offer you a reduced penalty, most often a parking ticket that costs half as much with no points associated. And you? You’re back in the saddle practicing to be Mario Andretti’s next of kin.
