i just got my first speeding ticket the other day (70 in a 50) and i want to fight it. im just wondering if you guys have any advice for fighting the ticket
thx
simple
ask for a court date and ask for the officer to be present
then make sure the info on the ticket is correct like the posted speed and ur info and the cars info
depending on when u get a date there are different wats to go about it
if the date u get is over a year later than the offense then u can get the ticket thrown out (ill elaborate later)
if the date is less than a year after the offence then just show up to the court and hope the officer isnt there
worst case scenario just talk to the prosecutor and he’ll reduce the fine and charge
im too lazy to go into details but search it on google and this site
i have spoken about this topic many times
good luck
Cops have to show now. I know, it sucks, but they get paid over time now. I fought one the other day, and if you don’t have much of a case don’t bother pleading not guilty, just plead guilty and chat about it and get it reduced. I plead not guilty will a full case and it was bull shit, they will do everything they can to make you pay it. So if you dont have a case, plead guilty, if you do, then pleade not guilty and bring TONS of evidence.
Even the over a year (it’s actually 8 months) doesn’t always hold. I had that, and you have to file some paperwork, which I sent registered mail and had signatures. They just said they never received it. When I showed proof, they said you have no proof of what was IN those letters you sent.
i’ve had 3 speeding tickets, one the officer didnt show, one the ticket didnt get processed fast enough and the case got dropped (my rep pushed the courts to drop it) and 1 i just took a reduced to 10 over from 32 over.
I’d say fight it, go to court, get it reduced at least and just leave it at that. Plead guilty with an explanation and they’ll usually drop it so you wont get poitns for it.
