Chevy getting the G8? what should it get called?

true story, when the GTO FIRST came out, I was hanging with my dad and we saw a new GTO. I pointed it out and said it was neat. My dad basically just wrote it off as a fancy looking grand-am. I seriously had to sit there and explain that it was a RWD car with a vette motor, and that it was designed and built by the australian GM division. He still wasn’t excited, but just funny that he compared it to some pos grand am.

yeah it’s a serious stigma they have to overcome because for a significant percentage of the car-buying public, albeit the ignorant one, every chevy is a Cavalier and every Pontiac is a Grand Am. The jap companies did it in the 90’s but you have to consistently put out good product and wait it out for word of mouth and personal experiences to circulate.

The Japanese did it by no longer producing a complete pile of shit as their economy car entry. GM has yet to design an economy car that isn’t a pile. My apologies to the Cobalt owners out there, but that car is garbage and falls apart far too quickly. Are there any out there with over 50k that haven’t had some major steering system issues?

When someone says the Accord is like a big Civic it’s not derogatory like saying the G8 is a big grand-am.

And sadly the reviews I have read about the Chevy cruze are bad. Looks good and drives like crap.

I liked the g8’s alot and i like this alot. I think this may be one chevy i may consider buying. I like the body lines and the v-8 rwd. Id also like to invest in something american made thats worth the money for a change.

Fixed.

well in keeping with automakers penchent for theme naming a family of cars… Chevy Onyx? (like cobalt). I think it reads way too corney, but eh

this thing is a rebadged holden?

Yes. They discovered a few years ago that their Australian division, Holden, was kicking major ass down under and decided to start incorporating their models here.

I personally will tell you that after driving one I will have no question in my mind at all trading my M5 in on one to show you how nice I really think this car is. Although i am not going to lie prefer to support GM/American car manufacturers if I can as well. Wrap it all up with a drivetrain I know well and what will be a fantastic aftermarket support and I am there.

why not just call it the Chevy G8? and keep it in it’s current form?

am I gonna be the first to say it? oh fine…“Giant Cobalt that doesn’t suck SS”

The G8 and Solstice will not be rebadged and sold under another GM nameplate, according to The New York Times and Jalopnik, who each covered this morning’s conference call with GM’s CEO Fritz Henderson.

:fu:

^^perfect response

gay.

I’d like to know if this was a GM decision or an Obama car czar decision so I know where to direct my anger.

So if they’re going to kill off their best models, how the hell are they supposed to become viable? I mean really, you do all this R&D, build a great car, then you decide the most profitable path is to kill it? They’re not going to return to the top focusing on Cobalts and Impalas…

The majority of our car buying population doesn’t care too much at all about performance models. They just want reliability and a trustworthy brand. They are getting back to basics, which I think is a really good first step. They can add performance to the mix once they stabilize the company again. But that won’t be for a while.

The problem is, performance was their competitive advantage. They’re going to have a harder time trying to beat Toyota at their own game starting from behind, than getting the word out about the stuff that they do well.

Not to mention that Toyota’s game fucking sucks.
