Chevy getting the G8? what should it get called?

I just wish they had them in 6-sp. The GXP is way overpriced IMO I am going to start lowballing the shit out of dealers in a few weeks I think and then Have to do a manual conversion. A friend i work with nabbed a brand new one for around $26K.

How about you buy a GT and I buy a Z06 and you swap the trannies. Z06’s are like 20k off right now :eek: but I’m not driving 6 speed.

I am going to make a few calls but I am about positive with a donor trans and hp tuners the swap should be cake.

Ok so the DOD needs to be deleted to go from auto to 6-sp. $1300 and you are going over 400 rwhp and this is a mod I would do anyhow.

how much is the price different of doing that vs buying a GXP and then voiding your warranty…

yeah you wouldn’t have a warranty then for at least anything drivetrain, and they would prob try to screw you for the engine…

Well the thing is the GT peoiple are getting in for well under msrp say 26K and last I checked they are somehow getting over msrp on the GXP around 40K.

Even if it kills the warantee(which I would anyhow) the swap parts including cam kit and rear upgrade I am guessing would be about 7-8K and you would have a built rear axle(very important on IRS IMO) with a gear of your choice, manual trans, and be making 60ish more rwhp over a GXP.

I am deff not saying it is the best scenario simply answering your question. However this is something I would do as I love a good DIY and warantees blow nuts. Also although it would be a daily i have enough $$$ that I could get another vehicle if needed. I am going to talk to a few dealers this week and see if they are willing to let any GXP’s go into the high 20’s.

yeah if you’re modding it as a DD it’s probably the best option, if it were left stock then i would just get the gxp.

what you want to do makes a lot more sense, is there many differences between the car other than the tranny?

I don’t know though because I really do not think the GXP will sustain it prices at all and I believe they will come closer to the GT in cost probably making the process not as worth it. Also you would be able to catch some good coin selling the old parts if you wanted to as well.

Here’s the main differences

  1. Slight exterior differences, subtle.
  2. GXP has the option of a TR6060 transmission and diff gear ratios.
  3. GXP: LS3 vs. G8:L76. sooo… 6.2L vs. 6.0L.
  4. GXP: Brembo braking components.

for extra 10k plus I don’t think it’s worth it, 10k in performance to a GT would make it much faster then the GXP as Cougarspeed said. Not mention it’ll probably get better mpgs then my 97 sts gets with twice the power, HELLO…
