Sorry guys, this is probably kinda a noob question.
But I’m putting a metal head gasket on my SR, and when I pulled the head off the majority of the gasket came off, but a surprisingly large amount stayed on the block. I’ve been told to scrape it off, but being an aluminum block I’m a little skeptical?
Anyone have any suggestions?
scrape it off, just be carefull. it is aluminum, but you still need to clean it off for it to seal properly.
by the way, i really hope for your sake it isn’t a copper head gasket, they are great if you rebuild your head after every 2-3 races, but if not, they like to clash with aluminum and rust.
Yes, I know. I knots its aluminum, thats why I was skeptical. And I know I need to clean it to seal properly. Thats why Im doing it.
And no, its not copper. Anyone else? If not Ill try scraping it, but Id like to hear more…?
no wire brissle.
Use a razor blade and carefully scrape it off. The just use 1000grit paper on a hand sized flat surface like a sanding pad.
Brake cleaner to dissolve the sticky parts?
There are rubber buffing pads that go into air drills or die grinders, anything of the like. They work amazing. If thats not available then yeah, get 1000grit sand paper and sand away.
their is gasket remover solutions at any engine rebuild store use that combined with a razor blade and your good! no wire brushes or sanding pads under 800 grit!
