Clear Bra?

Well I just got a new ride and I do alot of highway driving, so I was thinking about getting that clear bra stuff for the front of the evo. I have never used the stuff so I have some questions:

  1. Has anyone Installed this themselves? and how was it?
  2. Do you know anyone that does this locally and very well?
  3. Your general opinion on this product, if you have experience with it?

Here is some kits I was looking at: Let me know what you think…

depends on what kind of crap u expect to have hitting your car

that stuff does nice against sand, but anything heavy that would leave a nice mark will still leave a nice mark

jeller, i can do the good and fender and mirror intall but not into doin the bumper, ive done alot of that shit at work in the past

installing it yourself for the first time is definantly the suck

get some headlight films, as headlights usualy look crappier then the paint after a while. and sandblashed headlights are the suck for night driving

swapping headlight films is WAY easier then doing a cut / buff on the headlight itself

Jeller, the stuff is ok but

#1 it takes away from the smooth, clean look of the car
#2 you can have the entire front bumper repainted for a hair over $300
I would rather have the part repainted because then you have a brand new finish.

I would get a quality bra that you put on when driving to work or on long trips… making sure to take it oft and clean the backside when you wash the car…

I believe Lafengas did one…

I know this stuff looks kind of ghey, and I assume it is a PITA to install (If Lafengas says it is then I believe it) But I dont want to have to paint the thing in a year, cause aftermarket paint just chips even easier after its been painted; well at least the things that I have had painted before never seemed to hold up as good as the OEM paint. I do want to get some headlight film/protectant though for sure.

Jeller

My point was the fact that this film crap costs almost the same as paint work. Paint will renew the ENTIRE bumper. If you get it done at a pro shop the paint will not chip at all. Its really up to you. I would probably get the hood and headlight protection and refrain from tailgating.

wow, i can’t believe the negative responses towards the clear bra, i think the clear bra is amazing.

Installing it isn’t “easy” it’s kinda like doing window tint. If you don’t know what you’re doing it’s a real bitch and the results are less than appealing. But when done right or by somebody who knows what they are doing it turns out amazing.

Kleeman had his evo covered on the hood and fenders and it looks pretty damn good. The bumper looks to be really difficult though.

Planning on having your body panels resprayed to me is stupid. Because they only look good the day you get them back, the next day you hit a rock and you’re back to square one. Besides that, having a quality paint job would cost a lot more than $300 to have the hood, fenders, and bumper sprayed.

I forget what color your car is Jeller, but if it’s black, i’d reccommend the bra that much more. Rock chips will show up a lot more especially after you wax the car or if the chips are deeper and get to the lighter colored primer.

Cliff notes:

when the 3M bra is applied correctly, it is virtually undetectable and protection is amazing.

i dont think it takes away ffomr the look of the car @ all. if anyone has seen the Silver 02 NSX rolling arouns with Vrooom As the license plate he has 1 and i never even noticed till the 3rd time i seen it

^^^lives down the street from me…car is IMO the hottest car around…i see it all the time and i have never noticed it has one on it…maybe find out what brand it is?? if its a little more $ = worth it

hmm… the title of this thread is very misleading…

yeah really

there is no doubt you should get one

go meet up with kleeman, his apex silver evo already has it on, and you can barely tell its there, unless its very dirty. edit: he did it all himself

the paint on our cars suck. my bumper and hood is chipped to shit, when i repaint, i will definately put the 3M on

Well there you have it. Sounds like people with experience highly recommend.
If its undetectable then I would have no issue with it. $300 was for shooting the front bumber only.

Buy it and have Josh install it

kevin had one on his sti too…

those are hot, i’ll definitely get one for my next cah.

He installed it himself too, you could see a small fold or bubble but only if you really looked. I think it’s worth it and not as bad as everyone says…

daaaamn … maybe the stuff i have seen is the cheap stuff

maybe the only customers that had it put on were the ones that knew they would be folloing others to close on a gravel road

go for it, after seeing that site i cant argue , just get the more expensive hood / fender kit to give yourself as much protection as possible, the smaller rocks wont damage a hood father up, but the bigger stuff can still leave a small mark if they land right

no reason to save 100 bucks now just to wind up still having your hod rock chip just behind the smaller film

i would def get one if i could find a good installer around here… who does them?
