Would the fact that I used synthetic oil in my last oil change cause this? It wasn’t making the noise before and I found out that I’m not supposed to use synthetic in high mileage motors like mine but I just said screw it lol. I had already bought the oil and didn’t wanna waste it. Performance seems the same in the motor. Anyone know what it is?
Sounds to me like timing chain noise. Really all you can do to fix it is remove gaurds, use thicker oil to quiet it down or get the chain replaced.
Actually for the SOHC which your engine seems to be, you cannot remove the chain guards, unless you really have a wish to mangle up your engine. What you can do is fix the timing chain and tighten/install new guards if that is even the problem. That btw will take you a long ass time.
Check everything else first, try other solutions before that one. May be bad lifters?, injectors? timing chain? fan? something hitting the fan? hitting belts? Check those and hopefully it is something simple.
