Closing Gitmo: Yay or Nay?

What I’m saying is, its seems that there hasn’t been much thought put on what to do with these poeple. So they will need to go some where since where they are now is going to be closed. I am concerned because the thought should have been, “where is the best place for these people and why”. To evaluate if it should even be shut down at all, and why. If so, what to do with the prisoners. Not, “well we’ll need to figure out what to do with these people since were shutting down Gitmo.” Because we need to shut it down for the sake of shutting it down with out contemplating weather or not it might actually be the best place for them after all.

go to another forum that he’s not on? :gotme:

lose the prison and put all the prisoners to death should have been an option.

I’ve got no love for cab drivers.

But thats not what they are labeled, because that would bring about international laws.

We have to have a system of what to do we these people, and the people we capture in the future. We can’t just hold them indefinitely.

And what about the grey lines between being an active terrorist and simply a person “defending” their country? There were a number of Afghanis people who fought against us who had no connection to terror related activities. They simply fought what they considered an outside invader.

The system that Bush and Cheny created sucked from the get go, they had no foresight whatsoever and now Obama has to figure out a way to fix it.

jesus christ.

I’ve decided to report you as a terrorist. You better hope to god you don’t have darker skin. You’re going to be pulled away from your life without trial and tortured, humiliated, and possibly executed. I guess that’ll teach you to take so many US lives and/or withold information.

The “whatever it takes” mentality is the worst ever and there shouldn’t be any tolerance for it. How about if someone is convicted of rape we just kill them on the spot without trial? If you own a gun and someone downtown was recently shot, we should throw you in jail. It’s better to be safe than sorry… right?

I’m probably the biggest anti gun person on here. I approve of gitmo, because I want an end to violence… and intelligence gathered from torture, might stop that.

I really do not want to get involved in this thread but I will say that anyone who thinks closing gitmo is going to end us from using torture to gather intell is a silly, silly goose.

You MIGHT stop torture?

Just maybe? If it’s convenient?

What exactly do you think happens at Guantanamo Bay? Approving of gitmo in order to “end violence” is one of the most absurd political views I’ve ever read.

edit: You’re right cougarspeed, but this is a step in the right direction. Is it not?

Im no tin foil hat wearing mofo but ive been around the block in this department and well I think it is more of a publicity stunt then anything else.

its a cover… this shit happens all the time… put something in public eye, and they see nothing else.

Just like Area 51… you know there are other top secret bases… just area 51 is in the light

Whats the big deal with torturing people to get potentially life saving information?

A lot of shit happens to keep everyone on here living their super awesome happy lives…

Like hanger 18 on the base in ohio… :tinfoilhat:

This thread took a sharp wrong turn.

SRSLY!

I SERIOUSLY doubt the CIA condemned and shipped people to GITMO based on a disgruntled housewives tip or some other such bullshit.
Way to oversimplify.

Its the CIA / FBI and not the local neighborhood watch club.

Some interesting points in here. I guess if nothing else closing gitmo will allow us to detain and torture quietly with the rest of the world thinking an obama-led USA is all warm and fuzzy. Could help our standing in the world, for whatever that may be worth.

lol well said.

Why don’t you ask McCain what he thinks of that?

Seriously thats a scary statement right there.

Maybe, we’ll just have to see.
