Closing Gitmo: Yay or Nay?

So you capture an official from a terrorist group which has been known to make several attempts to bomb buildings or groups of people from the country that you live in or allies…

Do you:

A) Put him on trial where he might be found not guilty, and go home and continue on with what he was doing

b) Put him on trial where he is found guilty, and let him sit him in jail for the rest of his life.

c) Make him disappear, beat the fuck out of him until you get every last bit of information out of it, potentially leading to the capture of higher officials or possibly stop plans like the london subway bombings…

AND FUCK WHAT MCCAIN THINKS OF IT!

I am kinda thinking the prisoners might be worse off in a jail run by a different country

Once is not Enough
If you are poor and have once landed in jail-for whatever reason or no reason-the probability of your being back in jail off and on is fairly high. This is the impression I gathered from my talk with some of the under-trials in Jaipur Central Jail. “When you are an undertrial and go to the court every fortnight, the people, policemen everybody watches you… . . You are a ‘criminal’. You will be nabbed again as a suspect when-ever anything goes wrong in your locality. At the police lock-up you will be beaten (if you do not bribe them) to extort a ‘confession’.”

yeah there is no balance in power right now…

Agreed. its not like they are causing the people physical pain. They are just psychologicaly tearing them appart lol. I’m sorry but when it comes to exctracting vital information that can save the lives of thousands of people, the ends justify the means.

So innocent people in the US are less guilty than innocent people in the middle east?

I love the mentality that it couldn’t happen to you, so why should you care.

Torturing anyone in this century is unevolved and unnecessary. Will it get a confession?
“A confession gained through torture is no confession at all.”

Guantanamo Bay is a publicity stunt in itself. Make the average american feel safer because we’re being “hard” on terrorists and are willing to break the rules.

The truth is that we don’t want to accept that inflicting pain doesn’t yield results. We want the people we suspect to be terrorists to suffer physically. We want them to know that we’ll torture them, even if it goes against everything we stand for as a country.

A narcoanalytical method results in a higher success rate and is a more civil approach. But these methods aren’t 100% sound yet and never will be if we keep pretending physical torture is effective.

We have not had a single terrorist attack on US sail since 9/11. I’d say they were doing something right.

Canada hasn’t had a single terrorist attack in decades. I guess their unconstitutional torture camp works better than ours.

I doubt you could confirm nor deny if canada follows these practices.

Close it…but kill all the inmates…

Obama is in, its now time to be nice and consider people’s feelings. :picard:

I think we should air drop all those fucks at GITMO into Israel.

Its their fucking mess. Let them deal with it.

CHANGE EVERYONE!! FUCKING CHANGE IS HERE!! LETS PUT IT IN OUR FACEBOOK STATUSES, ON BUMPER STICKERS, ON EVERYTHING. SO EVERY OTHER PERSON KNOWS YOU FOLLOW THIS STUPID FUCKING TREND.

GITMO IS NEEDED, its vital to the safety of the US. YES its bullshit that these people get shit on pretty hardcore, lives ruined, but it ensures the safety of the people of the US, or at least it helps.

I honestly don’t know why its a fucking issue, there are soo many other problems with this world that should be addressed before some garbage prison that houses 600+ inmates.

Millions of people die from genocide and disease, and we’re worried about 600 potential (LIKELY to be) criminals.

Well lets hope the media shifts to something new soon, so I won’t have to hear about this fucking debate of people worrying about OMG Bin banga Bin Bong, is getting his ass beat in some prison, because the CIA or whomever felt he was a threat.

Blow it out your ass people.

I really do wonder what the world/ the USA would be like if we had never gotten involved.

Where’s your proof asshole? I don’t try to resort to name calling in political threads… but you are being the definition of an asshole. How the fucking christ is gitmo needed?

You’re totally right tho. That’s what vietnam was missing I guess, torturing people in Cuba. If only we had thought to do it earlier, that conflict would have been over. I bet it would have helped in the Persian Gulf too.

Would you say that torturing murder suspects in the US is okay? Maybe it can help keep neighborhoods safer. Now that I think about it, we have a responsibility to torture murder suspects. It’s necessary!

Do you even understand WHY Gitmo was created? Doesnt sound like it.
Another place or system will have to be created to deal with cases such as those at Gitmo now.

The standard US legal system CANNOT be used because these people fall into a currently undefined category.

Ugh, everyone is acting like we’ve never had to deal with “terrorism” before. If our military court or US legal system cannot deal with this situation somehow (even tho we’ve faced it since the dawn of the country), we need to form a system that CAN deal with it.

Are you saying that Guantanamo Bay is the best possible system and that it’s necessary for the safety of the US?

How about we follow the fucking rules of the Geneva Convention and stop telling the United Nations to fuck off already! There’s never a reason to commit war crimes, no matter how much we want to feel protected.

I said it once and I’ll say it again, people are showing their true fucking colors recently.

Scary statement?

Completely different scenarios…

Sorry I worked in the Pentagon for a while…If locking up some terrorists and getting information out of them…Makes just the pentagon safer I am all for it…

What this whole thing comes down to is people like who don’t see any direct connection between terrorist acts and your happy little life…had something in Buffalo been blown up or crashed into with planes I bet a lot of you would be singing a different tune.

Based on the other option of the US slamming a laser guided missile up there ass or a bullet to the head and no new story at all…I don’t think being locked up would be so bad…

Argh! not matter how close to home “terrorism” is it doesn’t make physical torture any less ineffective or evolved.

Does it get results? Does it save lives?

Maybe if it saved someones live you know it would make a difference?
