Club project...can this be done?

sr20ed suzuki cappacino! would haul some ASS…just thropwing stuff out there

Nobody would want to make some late 80s/early 90s Nissan FWD into a RWD? I think that we could get a lot of people to donate stuff towards to project. It would take a lot of custom fabbing, but luckily we have quite a few people in the club with custom fabbing experience. Pound out a tranny tunnel, build some suspension mounts. We could still have an independently suspended rear drive Stanza/Egg that would be able to handle and put out some serious hp to the rear wheels.

Who’s with me?

At least get a FWD car that isnt an eyesore, like a Stanza. A Sentra hatchback maybe… I know where we can get one for cheap!

How about a b15 Sentra (current gen) with a monster QR23DET RWD conversion? (The QR23DET is a turboed version of the QR25 motor with an SR20 crank and custom pistons/rods installed.)

And all I do is make fun of project cars because, well, let’s just say I’m not the mechanic of the year. A cool project though, I’m willing to bust my knucles on.

How about a Nissan micra with a mid mounted all wheel drive 5.6L Twin turboed V8 from the titan.

A mid engine would be almost impossible with an RB and rwd. The tranny would stick out the rear, nevermind the differential. This would just be impossible. The concept sounds cool on paper, but it will never happen, no matter how much money we could generate. Well, it could with, like icydude said, a custom tranny and diff, but… well, you know.

If we are to be original, exclude any SR, CA, KA, or RB engines. They have all already been done (realistically). I don’t know much about the titan engine, so there is some leway there.

How about some sort of pickup with a mid mounted RB26? All you’d really have to do is modify the bed to house/cradle the motor, and then you could have a small driveshaft between the tranny’s rear and the rear axle.

All you’d really have to do is rig up some sort of clutch pedal system and make sure that the rear suspension didn’t have much articulation to break the driveshaft…

Independent rear would be about the only way to go with a driveshaft that short. Let the axles take the suspension travel.

I’m talking realistic here, like build the car for under $5k. Others are talking about sticking in engines that will cost at least twice that.

So long as people donate their time and resources for the car I think we could make it happen. It would essentially be a shell dropped on top of the suspension of another car, but we could have something pretty unique and kickass in the end. With some fun fiberglass work we could modify the outside of the body to incorporate parts of other cars too.

I sold an S13 IRS setup to a guy with a truck, two summers ago. The body will be completed this month. It is definitely a neat setup. For a mid engined car, I still think a truck is a better choice, FM like 350z and skyline v35.

We can arange sponsors. I know of a few that might be interested.

Why would you make it a midship and then make it AWD? I think if you left it RWD it would be just as bad-ass, and easier

The original concept was RWD. It was never AWD.

I think i hacked appart sentra with a powerful motor and rwd would be awesome. It would definately require a lot of weight savings (plasma cutter and sawzall would do the trick) and some almost solid suspension but it could be a wicked autocross car. Im thinking it’d be cool to make it into a full size go kart in essence…

who’s we?

who’s we?[/quote]

we as a club, i dont know. we as in me.

just throwing out ideas
