To try to keep everything in one easy-to-find spot…
So Rx3, Itagaki and myself took the opportunity to give GTR2 a try last night, using my Logitech G25 wheel setup, and Andy’s high-end gaming laptop. Needless to say, we were all very impressed by the level of realism provided. Playing GT4 afterwards was kind of meh…
So now I’ve got to build/buy a new gaming machine, as my old one was outdated more than three years ago, and hasn’t worked at all in the last two. (Poor overclocked Athlon 500 finally gave up the ghost).
What are the system specs that you guys have who have been running this game, and how does it run for you? I was planning to start at the recommended specs on the box and make sure to exceed them by a little bit.
The recommended system is:
Windows XP
3GHz Pentium IV
1GB RAM
DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with 256MB of memory.
I’m more concerned with framerate than eye-candy. I’ll probably run at 1280x1024 resolution.
Enough about systems. Who is playing this game, and have you been playing online? We are looking to start a dedicated server and get a league going.
I’m going to get it soon, maybe when this semester comes to an end.
I’m a believer of AMD performance (probably opening up a can of worms here) due to the sheer performance and price also.
Don’t cheap out on ram, maybe get as much as you can afford (2 gigs?)
I guess more importantly, don’t cheap out on your video card. Their performance vs. price these days is so good that it would be a mistake not to take advantage of that.
I have an amd 3000+
1 GB of ram
and a PCI-e 800x (i think)
Plays this game on 100% max - smooooth.
I love it.
I need to find the thing to display framerate.
Only issue I have noticed is racing in the race I saw a little chop when the race began.
I wouldn’t be good enough to do a league because I have no wheel and would have to buy the game.
EDIT - I avg about 40 FPS and has seen about 20ish when all hell breaks loose rain + big 20+ car accident on the front striaght I wish I had the replay it ruled.
I setup a server tonight. Problem is, I need minimum of 2 people to test it out (when I try to do it by myself, I can get in, drive to pitout, but then the car stops and won’t allow me on the track. The computer isn’t locked however, all the sounds are normal and I can go 3rd person and camera pan/zoom, etc.)
Oh trust me, you can’t be that bad. Ask Itagaki how much trackside gardening I was doing in the rain on whatever track we ran tonight. Definitely need a wheel, leyboard is too jerky, and you are doomed if you can’t be smooth. I’m going to dial down my video settings and play again tomorrow.
You would be impressed!
I drive like old people fuck -Slow and Sloppy-
but
My friend gave me a ps2 knock off usb controller that is analog.
Knocked a good 10 secs. off my best lap time first try.
Trying to race in that game with a keytard is a joke.
The assists (specifically steering assist, traction control and ABS) are designed to make the game playable with the keyboard. Were you using them at all?
BTW my machine is due here on Thursday. Hopefully I’ll get lucky and it’ll work the first try…
Yeah, I had all the assists on, and I couldn’t keep the thing on the road. I place some of the blame on myself, because I had a lot of video options turned on. I want to try again with some lower settings and see how it goes, but I already know from Saturday that I will be 20x better with a wheel.
Steering with a keyboard is like arguing on the internet…
I’ll probably pickup an anaolg controller today to hold me over until I get the whole setup for the racing wheel together. Overall though, the network play was extremely smooth. The sync between systems was almost perfect.
Now I just have to find a car better than the 350Z :bloated:
ugh, I need this game. I’ll have to try out the demo to see if my computer can come close to running it.
Could somebody post the min and recommended specs?
