computer nerds, who can figure out whats wrong?

Compaq 2100 Presario Laptop.

CD/DVD player will work fine for games, but not for movies. http://www.ls2.com/forums/images/smilies/1zhelp.gif

Windows is up to date, the driver is updated and works fine, no issues there, and when i popped in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon it worked perfect. However as soon as you pop in an actual dvd to watch a movie, it wont work. It will read whats on the dvd but wont play it. I have made sure windvd works and i also installed the latest power DVD to try to run it with that with no luck, it just locks up.

I dont get it, why does it work fine with games, but not with movies?

cd/dvd is probably broken. Ive seen this happen before… sooner or later your drive will just break alltogether.

werd… my old dvd drive did the same thing. most likely it’s on its way out IMO

Email the drive manufacturer. See if they know of some issue.

The first question is: Real dvd or burned dvd? (by actual, do you mean “retail”?)

If it’s burned – is it a negative or a positive? (dvd-r, dvd+r). Your drive may or may not be able to read one or the other. This response of course hinges on the original question.

:word:

Another question, you said it reads games. Were any of those games in DVD format? Best bet is to contact compaq, but knowing vendors they probably would have you do a system recovery most likely (gg policy). >_<
