I know there are a couple well versed concrete guys on this forum, and am hoping you can help answer a question for me.
We’re moving into a new house on Thursday, new as in just built. I want to seal the floors before parking non-running leaking cars on a fresh garage floor. I know the builders did not seal it, but am not sure if I am going to have time. I also wasn’t sure the best product to use, or if they are all the same. I looked at the Behr Concrete sealer at Home Depot and briefly at the two-part epoxy systems. I don’t really care to use the two-part epoxy, or the paint chip look floor. Later on I plan to put a vynl like tile floor down later, just don’t have time now as the only one I like that drains under the tile I can’t get to the house in time.
Most of the product I looked at has a 72 hr dry time before parking cars or heavy foot traffic, but I don’t think I’ll have that much time. But if I don’t do it now, I don’t know when I will be able to, Here’s my schedule…
Tues night we have the final walk-through. I know the foreman will let me stay after and start working on the house (installing blinds and some misc things) I was thinking it would also be a good time to seal the floor.
Wed morning we close, and will start moving light things into the house, as well as the “greasy” car parts and thing the moving company doesn’t want to bother with. I can keep things off of the garage floor at this point, with the exception of lawn mower, snow blower and other misc yard tools that I don’t want to carry through the house and into the basement.
Thurs - the moving truck comes and this is when my tool boxes will be moved, and I won’t be able to keep things off of the floor anymore, specifically the boxes (two heaviest items)
Friday morning - I’m having my DSM trailered over (surprise it doesn’t run) and will need to park it in the garage. I can’t imagine trying to push it through the gravel driveway by myself, and the driveway is being done next week.
now, finally, here are the questions. Should I be using a better product then the Behr, and if so where do I find it? Will the 48-60 hrs be enough time, even though they are calling for 72? I know it sounds like the answer is obvious, but hope that Behr is being cautious with the 72 hr window…???
