Is there a way to hard wire a SIRIUS radio to a stock GM radio ('02 Grand Prix)? The FM modulator works fine, but I’m sure I’m losing sound quality.
not for a 02 grand prix, that i know of. Do u have a Wireless FM mod or a wired one?
best buy has a wired fm modulator for $20 and its 75% better then the wireless goodness
yes sound quality is def. lost thru an FM mod.
Does your car have CD changer capabilities?, not built into the unit but possible one you could have purchased from the factory? maybe an open plug in the back of the HU??
a wired fm mod would be the cheapest
examples
I have the standard wireless modulator that came with the car kit.
When you say 75% better, do you mean better signal transmission or better frequency response? I have no trouble picking up the modulated FM transmission (it will even make it to surrounding cars), it just isn’t a good quality sound.
I’ll pull the radio out, but I don’t think it has any accessory plugs or provisions for a changer. Actually, it’s the radio from the wife’s old 2000 Grand Prix - it had an equalizer and sounded better so I swapped radios.
It seems the Freq Responce is a alot better(at least it worked in my dads truck), as for the factory radio having an input, it seems that gm started with the aux input available in 2003 with most of there cars, excluding monte carlo and the venture (witch started in 01 & 97).
for $20 with a 30 day return policy its worth a shot, You are going to need ant adapers as well with that if u go with the wired route
I’ll give it a try. Thanks.
you could always do an aftermarket radio with AUX audio in. If you dont mind shellin out aroud 300 bucks, but at least you’ll get a New radio outta the deal.
Thought about it, but didn’t really want to spend the money on it since the stock system doesn’t sound too bad. And I didn’t know how having the Bose amplifier affected things.
My car audio interest days have long gone. Only reason there’s a system in the Trans Am is cause it’s too much work to take it out.
jeff if you get an aftermarket stereo, and it’s a kenwood, i have a kenwood sirius tuner here.
if it ain’t broke Don’t fix it
