I heard yesterday, we are likely to stay on limited in building staff until March.
Basically if you can work from home, you need to work from home. Most of our s/w guys are probably never coming back.

We have easily been running less than 50% capacity.
Some managers are forcing rotating schedules so all of their employees cycle through the office.
One more benefit of a stay at home mom, is childcare although more money would be more good.
I have a ton of travel coming up, so Iām not looking forward to travel, quarantine for a week, travel, quarantine for a week, travelā¦
Covid canāt catch me if I keep changing states
Iāve been back at my work full time since they hit phase 1. Before that we were 50/50. 4 hours in 4 hours at home.
Kids still scheduled to go back Thursday. But I will be in South Carolina.
Missing their 1st day of school for the 1st time in their lives.
Also. Someone lease make UB IT faster. I listen to my pre-recorded classes at 1.75 -2x and It stops all the damn time, and then goes to o n e x s p e e d a n d i t i s so o o o slow.
(also note, it is at least 50% my fault because I can only get spectrum out here, but ima complain anyway.)
just an update on how things are going up here.
there is a web-based āparent-portalā for each student and a 20 question survey (do you have covid, have you been outside the country etc.) that has to be completed and uploaded EVERY DAY before the student is allowed to enter the school.
interestingly enough, we cannot for the life of us get one of our 2 kids registered. It simply isnāt possible to get our oldest set up in the system despite weeks of trying. My wife administers the Facebook group for the school and the issues weāre having are also being experienced by many dozens of other families.
we also are not allowed to drop them at playground as per usual, we have to drop them on the other side of the fieldā¦ the list of ridiculousness goes on and on.
this is complete incompetence. there is no possible way you can provide an educatation with all of the restrictions being placed on the staff and the students.
We just have to fill out this short online form daily and take my daughterās temperature. School started Tuesday but because her last name starts with āSā sheās in the 2nd group so her first day in school is tomorrow. Tuesday was her first day and she had remote learning and did all of about 20 minutes of work. Today was the day the whole school does remote and she had 4 classes on Zoom, one of which ended up canceled for āa family emergencyā. She was going to be done by noon even before the canceled class. This thing is a fucking joke and I feel like we should be getting about 80% of our school taxes back because the kids are only getting about 20% of their education we paid for.
I agree. These (iām at a loss for a word that adequately describes the people responsible for all of this mess) āpeopleā cant even do their only jobs properly. Educating my children is one of the only things i actually need and want from the govt and this is an intentional cluster fuck.
itās really sad.
And to be clear, Iām not blaming the Williamsville teachers or even administrators here. This is mostly on the state.
Got a txt that theyāre have another zoom meeting about changes to the hybrid and remote models tonight.
The general consensus on the parent forum Iām on is that if they mess up the hybrid model that 75% of us selected and started Tues to appease the parents upset about the 100% remote model not starting itās going to be war against the board.
My daughter had her first day yesterday. Sounds like it went really well. She basically only had to mask between class since there are so few kids in each room. They set up a desk for each kid to eat at in the cafeteria.
Weāll see how it really goes when they start for real next week. But I think its gona be just fine.
Again, her district is TINY. There might be 300 kids in the whole HS.
Dan
Lol @JayS would love to hear your thoughts now.
Keyboards are going a mile a minute at my house right now. The wife and I are getting parents organized to start recall petitions for any board member that supported this garbage of dropping the hybrid plan 75% of the parents picked and going full remote because they couldnāt figure out how to make the 25% that picked full remote happy.
I thought Willyville was star spangled awesome sauceā¦looks like itās a shit show.
Well, for as long as Iāve lived here they were either #1 or #2. Maybe once slipped to #3. They completely fucked this up though.
I said last year voting out the two board members who were always at odds with the union in favor of the two union backed candidates was going to be terrible for this district. And here we are, superintendent voted out in a 3 minute zoom meeting of the board with zero public comment at 6pm on a holiday and they moved in their new puppet. 3 days later they stand together and push through their plan going against the wishes of 75% of the parents in the district, again via virtual meeting with no public comment.
Time to move to the city!
Wellā¦ Covid at this point was unsuccessful in ruining our plans for travel and our wedding. Howeverā¦ I now have the 4th largest wildfire in Colorado history 10 miles from where we are staying in Estes Park, along with 5-6ft of snow drifts on the road we were looking to drive in the park. lol
The fire started Aug 13th and went to Sept 5th only growing to 25,000 acres. (Barely moving some days, and maybe 1000 acres another) In the following 3 days after the 5th, a cold front blew in bringing the earliest big snow fall in history for them as well as sever winds that allowed the fire to grow from 25,000 acres to 102,000 acres. The snow slowed it 6-17" of snow fell, but it only put a short road block on it. Today they are supposed to get 40mph gusts again. If the fire spreads bigger today, Iām guessing we will have issues. However after today the weather looks promising in the high 60s and low to mid 70s for the rest of the week with lower wind speeds to none.
We had plans for Sunday to drive Old Fall River Rd but that doesnāt seem to be happening now that the fire is 3 miles from there and was originally closed for smoke but is now closed because of the foot of snow they got.
This wedding if it goes off will be one crazy story to tell later on. Covid first stressed us out and if we were even going to be able to have itā¦ now a massive fire and a freak snow storm. AWESOME!! We leave tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow morning youāre going to wake up to a massive lightning storm and all the trees around your house are going to fall in a way that spells out, āDonāt do it!ā and then youāll finally see the signs fate has been sending you.
Just kidding. Good luck, and yes, this will make for some crazy stories years from now.
Seriously though, Iām waiting literally every single day to see what new bullshit is going to be thrown at us. I meanā¦ Do I take this as a sign? lol We are still clear to fly, clear to be there, no problems on any of that. Just a lot of stress with wondering how everything will work out all the way since March. Iāve got a lot of shitty sleep these past few months.
And thank you for the good luck.
This was the road we were supposed to drive but will more than likely be closed. Hoping at least Trail Ridge Rd opens to the Alpine Center which this road ends at but thatās not promising with the 5ft snow drifts across the Trail Ridge Rd right now. haha
I wanted to drive Old Fall River Rd, but all my non-car guy friends werenāt down.
Mt Evans is a couple hours south, but is a great drive up to the top.
Watching the Bills gameā¦ āand the fake fans are loving it!ā ā¦
My kids have been to school twice.
We get emails from teachers, but not a lot of info.
Weekly Covid survey.
All kids were sent home with a chrome book to make sure they do not have hardware issues.
I have no idea how the online only kids are doing it, but I have no great way to keep tabs on google classroom assignments.
I think there are zoom sessions and allegedly prerecorded videos.
Iām not sure of the schedule, but they are allegedly more for Q/A I think.
My daughter is getting the hang of 2x speed playback for stuff she already knows since you must watch the video to get credit.
I donāt miss the days of being a hyper-involved parent, but it would be nice to know more about the day to day issues at the school.
