Culture in Buffalo?

A bunch of people that I work with are from different cities, states, or countries and they all seem to be under the impression that all there is to do around here is drink and ski. They’re too ignorant of Buffalo to even be looking forward to the summer. Being proud of this city, I’m putting together a list of all the great cultural things there are to see and do in Buffalo that one might not expect for them. Here’s what I’ve got so far, add to if if you can think of anything:

-Go for a walk in a park. We have a world reknowned park system designed by a famous architecht.

-While you’re at Delaware Park, visit the Albright Knox Art Gallery.

-You don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate the beauty of The Basilica of Our Lady of Victory

-While you’re at South Park, visit the Botanical Gardens.

-Shakespear in the park. Free culture!

-Who doesn’t love a free outdoor concert?

-Who doesn’t love another free outdoor concert?

I saw The King and I at some outdoor ampitheater in Lewiston a couple of years ago. What was that? What else can you think of?

Buffalo sucks:D

People who say buffalo sucks have no clue what they are talking about. They are just jumping on the “lets hate buffalo” bandwagon.

Buffalo rules. Housing is so cheap. Jobs are kinda hard to find, ill give you that. Theres tons of state parks. Lake Erie and Ontario. Canada is within sight. Toronto is a short drive away. Winter sports.

Buffalo has a rich cultural context, if you look in the right places…

 to this thread.

im not originally from buffalo and when i moved here i hated it because i thought the same thing, but now i love it here. i think UB does a horrible job at getting students out into the city and at trying to get them to stay in buffalo. most of my friends at school are from other cities and they hate it here because they know nothing about this city.

 to buffalo summers
 to buffalo winters

Call the cops on fellow NYSPEEDERS at M/T.

there are also endless excellent restaurants in the area.

buffalorising and artvoice are a good resource.

I agree. This is my second year at UB as a transfer student and I still get the impression that Buffalo is pretty boring. I do try to get out and try new things in the area, be it through going to DubsintheBuff and BuffaloScooby meets or finding things out on my own. This thread is a big plus.

If you live the ‘UB life’ at most you will find yourself at south campus. Definitely check out Elmwood and Allentown, especially once it gets nice out.
