Daytona Bike Week: 18 Deaths

My dad just got back from spending the past 10 days or so in Daytona with a friend, and had a lot of cool stories and news paper articles he brought home.

what really caught my attention though, is the new record they set this year. in the past week at Daytona Bike Week, there were 18 bike accident related deaths, more than there have ever been. scary shit, but it really pisses me off how STUPID people act around a larger group…reminds me of some cruises that go on around here where when there’s more cars, there’s more assclowning…

one of the articles reads:

title: Record Death Toll Gets Higher

"The odometer on Robert Fliss' new Harley Davidson motorcycle read 72.5 miles when he crashed and died. Fliss, 51, had just bought the motorcycle Friday night amid the Bike Week festivities at Destination Daytona north of Ormond beach..."

dude bought the bike Friday, this was in a Daytona Beach paper Sunday…

i really am looking forward to gonig with my dad next year, and for many years in the future, but shit like this never stops scaring me…there are a lot of idiot out there both on and off the bikes…

this past weekend i saw a few bikes on the thruway, with a middle aged lady literally right on their asses…here they are going 60+mph, and she had her front bumper no more than 5 feet from their fenders

Moved to Gen Auto.

Of course there are a lot of accidents. You have drunk people partying all week long at bike week riding motorcycles. Add to that the residents that are pissed off by the whole deal and accidents happen.

Why is this in Motorsports? Moved

Edit : Stupid Rick.

Too slow :stuck_out_tongue:

Wonder how many of those idiots had helmets on?

:word:

in daytona beach? none, im assuming…

only the smart ones

:word:

The ones that didnt die

we stopped in Daytona for the night when we were driving down here (FL) last week. It was insane there were bikes everywhere obviously all driving like assholes. I stopped to get gas and the 2 stations I went to were both out of 93 octane which sucked because my car takes 91+. Looks like it would be a good time though if you were careful and knew a big group of people to hang out with.

I went to one of these events when I was still at Langley back in 2000. We took our bikes there for the weekend. Some of those guys are just fuggin crazy. Pulling wheelies with no shirts and helmets on at high speeds, impressing girls and eventually whipping out somewhere. I see it’s gotten worse as per the article. It’s a good event for anyone who plans to attend.

Reminds me of a funny joke, kinda related.

Whats the difference between a harley and a hoover?

The position of the dirtbag.

lol thats good

i stayed there for spring break last year and bike week was just ending. soo fucking annoying and loud. they were all crammed in the bars, lingering, waiting for spring break to start.
