DD or Winter car?

Help me decide:

I have a 2008 Evo X. It came with Enkie RPF-1’s and lowering springs, It is also pretty mint. In order for me to DD this through the winter at the VERY least I will need stock springs and different wheels and tires. ($500 for the stock wheels, $150 for stock suspension, and $$$ for tires)

OR

I could buy a shitty winter beater. ($1000 DSM?)

What would you do?

DD it. It’s AWD. Why spend all that money on a car and drive a piece of shit >50% of the year?

drive the evo and fucking slide it everywhere!

I would drive the winter beater if the funds were available for it. I don’t mind having a nice car in the summer and not have to worry about salt eating the shit out of it. The way I look at it, $1000 + parts for the beater can be easily recouped in resale of the car and it not being rusted to shit.

edit- but of course it would be fun to drive that through the winter…hmmmmm

you probably wont keep it long enough to see it rust out…drive it and get it washed frequently. Winter beaters suck.

See the major point of this is cash. I feel as if I can get a winter beater for less than the price of parts I need to winterize my DD!

Edit: Also, I could probably re cooperate most if not all my cash at the end of winter if I go the winter beater route.

I’d be all for DD’ing the evo, I’m not afraid to beat the shit out of it. I just don’t feel like spending $1000+ on wheels and tires that will just sit around for half a year.

fixed that last sentence for you

LOL I have a feeling you are going to end up DDing the car…

search around for a used set of winter wheels/tires and keep it at the lowered height… my evo was lowered and was great in the snow (plowing the apr lip through it was painful though)

Yeah I’m not looking to bang up my aero kit too bad. The struts are the cheap part. I cannot find a set of wheels that will fit for under $500 for just the wheels alone.

Damn brembos.

Yeah dude just get some tall snows, a friend of mine dd’d a dumped evo all year round, and that thing was a fuckin riot in the snow, with dedicated snows of course

DD the evo. Driving a beater is boring.

Lol not if the beater is a TSI awd.

Hell, I always have fun bouncing off snowbanks in beaters.

I just cannot justify spending $1000+ on wheels and tires. That’s a set of cams, springs and retainers. Or an FP red upgrade.

At least with a beater there is a return on the investment come spring.

Unless I can find a set of stock GSR wheels and tires for under the price of what I can get a beater for, I’m likely going to opt for the beater.

Haha, this is very true.

Sounds like you’ve already got your mind set on getting a beater. If that’s financially better and you won’t get bored then just go that route.

I despise what winter does to cars…but knowing how you quickly you go through cars I’d put the money into whatever it takes to DD the Evo and enjoy it. You only live once…and plus you can sell off the winter parts, or include them in the sale of the car.

I have no reason to quick sell the evo though…

I didn’t get a smoking deal on it. It has nothing wrong with it that I have to fix. I have no excuses to sell it. Also, it’s financed. I need to start building credit.

I hope to god I find some cheap wheels and tires, because I bet the AYC would be a blast in the snow. My evo 8 sucked in the snow surprizingly, it was hard to get out of a slide because of the open differentials. But I’m sure the X would be a great time.

You live 1 time. I would hakka or blizzak the X and whip it. Winter fun doesn’t really get much better than that if you are a “car guy”.

Regular undercarriage care will keep you in great shape - this is typically what makes or breaks the vehicle depending on what the owner has the motivation for.

evo as a daily

Don’t you have a work truck?

shitty winter beater is way more fun than having a sweet car that you can’t hit shit with. My saturn was way more fun that my touareg is. I would plow through anything in the saturn with no care in the world about breaking it. Buy something and beat the hell out of it over winter then sell it for too much around tax time and get your money out of it + 500 bucks
