Great progress.

I respect your first purchases (t-stat, plugs, hoses). Most people want to just hit the trails and you’re taking care of some shit that is usually overlooked. Nothing pisses people off more than an overheated shitty rig leaking coolant everywhere and blocking a trail.
I’m on wnyoffroad, just no build thread there. I actually bought my tcase drop kit from there. Once I get the rig mostly together, I plan on trying to join an offroad group to learn the ropes.
Future plans are to have a water extinguisher in the jeep for spraying out the radiator after / during wheeling. So I dont overheat on the way to the spray and wash.
God damn it, that’s the 3rd time I clicked this thinking Jag.
Great progress. Since it appears you are sticking to the Black (Or Dark Blue…?) Jeep what are you going to do with the floor? I have seen a similar issue fixed with some cutting, riveted patch panels, seam sealer, and undercoating if you are not able to weld. It worked out pretty good IMO for a trail rig.
+1 to this…
I scrapped a 8.25 not to long ago couldnt find anyone who wanted it lol.
I’m going to cut out and weld. I want to do it right, even tho my father was like, just rivet over it and let the old floor drop out the bottom (rivets promote rust ect) But yeah, I plan to cut it all out, its mostly flat metal, so It should be pretty simple.
Goal is still the same, People pay 2000$ + for decent looking stock rigs, then lift them 3 inches ect. The goal for me is to spend 2k, have a capeable winter rat, already be lifted, and be able to beat the living hell out of it if I want to, and not be upset when it breaks. Being a noob wheeler, it probabaly wont get trashed too soon.
I have new plugs/fuel filter and other random things you can have for that jeep if you are ever in Rochester.
I hear that. I spent $800 on a 94 F-150…maybe a TOTAL of $1,000 including new tires for the winter (needed brakes, oil pan/oil pan gasket, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, windshield wiper motor, radius arm bushing, front u-joints, and new rear dif. gasket). Drove for 3 years as a beater/work truck. Traded it in and got $1,000 for it. Best invest I ever made. I would get another one if ever needed.
Sounds like a good plan. Good Luck.
fyi if your looking for doors / parts, go to M&M, cash for clunkers has turned that place into a fucking xj / zj gold mine
not looking for doors, the tan doors are nice, Im looking for 97+ mirrors, a fan shrowd and a few other misc bits tho, I’ll have to take a drive over there.
Progress looks pretty good!
Read up on my “ZJ Robot” thread and Mike’s “Kuggy” thread over at WNYOffroad. You’d be surprised how quickly a full bodied “beater” rig can get trashed if you get bitten by the wheeling bug. Now I’ve seen plenty of people wheel XJs and ZJs without much body damage – but most of those folks drive their rig daily, too. Just throwing it out there, because I had no intention of my Grand Cherokee turning into the buggy it is now…
Also, not to start a debate, but that’s not the type of tow strap you want for wheeling. Metal hook ends are a bad idea…
oh I know, but it was free. I can cut the hooks off it or something.
I plan on getting some longer ones until I can afford a winch.
Reeeeeeally?!!
we blew up ~15 Jeeps (mainly xj/zj) just at the honda dealership that I work at in Vermont.
i was in m&m yesterday theres a solid dozen xj’s in there
Rough Country makes some sold stuff. I just ordered a 4" adjustable control arm lift kit from them for my TJ. I did a ton of research and unless you plan on spending a LOT of money for Rubicon Express stuff, Rough Country seems to be the best bang for your buck. Also, check out Rusty’s Off Road, they make a lot of XJ stuff. My sway bar disconnects are made by them and so far I have been impressed with the quality for the price.

i just picked up a 1996 ZJ and im in the same boat as you are. higher miles. kinda beat, but it still runs and drives.
Lookin to make a nice offroad / mud toy myself.

SkyJacker makes a great “budget boost” kit with 2" spacers and shocks than can be had for ~$250. A good friend of mine has a '94 ZJ with the 2" SkyJacker kit and clears 31x10.5s on stock rims with hardly any issues. If you are going to wheel that thing, do yourself a favor and look around the junkyards/ebay for a set of skid plates from a ZJ. IM me if you’d like and I will put you in contact with my friend, he is a walking encyclopedia about ZJs.
lol. That is a VERY true statement…not that I know or anything…
I havent given up, just lacking motivation. I sold my daily driver to help fund the jeep, and for the extra push of not having a winter vehicle. So now I’ve been tooling on the ole hot rod everyday, trying to make it more road worthy.
Just lacking that ambhition to get er done on the jeep
its wet, and cold today again, but I’m thinking about going to get the front axel out of the other jeep and under my jeep, so atleast its moveable.
With that done, the main concern before winter will be the floors, makign sure the basics work, like heat, defrost and getting it aligned ect, doing all the tune up shit i bought for it on the first post.
A random sideshot, before I put the shocks in ect.
well looks can be decieving, they are perfect
Also the shock is in.
A pic of the newer power steering box, and new line
