Diesel Jetta Questionaire

Hey guys, just wanted to know as i am looking for a good running diesel. What problems to look for on these cars (92 Jetta 1.6 turbo diesel). Not familiar with diesel motors. Want to buy as a commuter car and not sure what to watch out for. Any suggestions ?

Do your fuel filter and oil changes regularly.

Glow plugs before winter. Be sure to have a good battery, not some cheap CT one.

Then of course all the obvious shit with any car.

Good cars. Not a race car. Drive them with care and maintenance. My dad has an old friend that rolled his over (the odometer)

so i can look for same signs of wear on a gas engine ? like valve cover leaks, headgasket problems ( oil mix with coolant) it should all be the same right

Like I said, everything else is the same.

The VW’s are notorious for leaking oil, coolant, head gaskets. Nothing crazy expensive though. Very easy to work on the older VW’s

I drove a 1.9 turbo diesel Zafira in Europe, the thing felt SO FAST. I looked up the specs, 148hp, lmao wtf?

The acceleration, and in result, the force you are pushed back into your seat is proportional to the power curve in any gear, and not the torque curve, correct?

I had an argument with several friends about this, I even did the math, its power that determines acceleration in any given gear, not torque. (In the end it’s wheel torque, but for simplicity, let’s leave it at that…)

Personally, I think they are slow and loud. lol

but like the best commuter cars, like 87s15 said easy to work on older vw’s and unbeatable gas mileage

^ Nothing beats a civic.

Sure the older V-dubs are easy to work on, but the price of parts will rape you silly. Also, watch out for those electrical issues.

edit** that site was already posted lol
