Well I just wanna hear what you guys have to say about a 1994 jetta(Volkswagen) diesel turbo(manual), give all negative and/or positive feedback towards this kind of car.
only problem is that those models were made in mexico but drive train is
made in germany. its a TD its not fuel injected those yrs if i remember right.
diesel engine are built better last longer, but are also more expensive to
maintain. thats pretty much it that i can think of about those jettas
didn’t VW only start that whole mexico thing 1999+?
No, it started in 1994.
I owned a 1994 Jetta diesel (non-turbo) and it had a lot of problems. Glow plugs and dash board electrical were the big issues.
I forgot that they produced a TDI in 94’ however I’d check to see if it was assembled in Mexico since the wagons are German assembeled and maybe the TDI’s were built in Germany as well.
94’s didnt have wagons, only sedens.
if it was a wolfeburg edition, then it’d be german
I have nothing but good things to say about those cars. Parts are cheap, where else can you do 8 bucks a set of pads, 25 for a back caliper, 15 for a rotor. The good thing w/diesels are once you get it taken care of the right way, timing belt, water pump, fluids, etc etc, they just keep running and running…8000/oil change compared to most cars back then relying on 5000 per change. My 06 TDI can go 16000 / change.
Good on gas. Only thing I’d recommend is putting in a oil pan heater and a coolant heater, ones that splices into your lower rad hose.
As long as you put lubricant in the diesel, remmeber back in those days, the lubricity in diesel is much higher…when they went to LSD in the mid 90’s a whole wack of the pumps failed because owners don’t put oil in their fuel…now with ULSD you have to be even more careful. TCW-3 certified 2 stroke oil works best.
Cheap to run on fuel, my 6.5 Diesel Suburban costs me 0.15 - 0.17 cents per KM where as my 1.9 TDI costs me 0.06 cents per KM. Both cars w/50/50 city highway and not booting the piss out of it all the time.
Yeah, keep the lube handy.
Some parts are cheap. Some really, really, really aren’t - like injection pumps.
If you haven’t had problems with a Mexican VW, you’re in the minority.
Just google ‘class action + VW’
Only about 10 pages of results. They’ve been hit with more lemon law suits than Ford … FORD!!!
I take serious issues with any company that authorizes silent recalls to keep their consumer ratings higher.
I have a friend who was lucky enough to get one of the first VR6 Jettas back in the day. He didn’t even make it off the lot when he picked it up - brand new.
If not for their Ikea-like branding, they wouldn’t be able to charge $30 large for a $12,000 car.
Remember when VWs were cheap, economical, disposable cars? They still are, they only cost more.
My auto teacher had a 94’ TDI, said temperature sensors were a huge pain in the ass. VW charges like 3-400 to replace.
yeah, plus WOOD.
I wouldn’t buy any jetta that isnt 99, or is it 98+?
my parents have a 97- its’ favourite pastime is breaking, and no i don’t mean braking.
