98s also have a smaller oil passage in the rear of the block which was changed at some point after 98 (99, 00?)

01-02 cars occasionally got LS6 blocks (improved oil passages being the main difference). They also had LS6 intakes with no EGR (obviously)

98s are also the last year for metal gas tanks + diff. pickup setup ( :tup: ) , and their guages were true…aka 99+ the coolant guage is bullshit and the other displays all get their info from the computer itself
If you can get a 98 for thousands less, it can make sense to. The biggest draw back when modding one is the computer, just bc it is slighty more limited and less people have the software for them. Just like LT1s though, any year is a good platform and can be made fast as shit
Ok i got a question in reguards to what badazz wrote… If you have a 98 motor, can it made used with a 99+ computer and or harness? I’m still not 100% sure what i have, do to some of my sensors on my motor it seems i have an 01 computer and harness, evidently 98 had a few different sensors such as the coolant sensor on a 98 has 3 prongs, and the 99+ has 2 prongs which i have. So i’m just wondering if its possible that my 01 computer will work, i dont see why not…
We got the LS6 intake manifold. 
Oh, and FWIW - add a new set of heads (243 casting - similar to the LS2 - vs 241 casting) and cam = LS6.
I gota stop over and sort ur shit out. Its completely possible that you just have 98 style heads or a 98 engine with 01 computer/harness/sensors. The only hard part is when you have say a 98 wiring harness and try to swap in an 01 computer, or vice versa, bc then you have to do some re-wiring.

Yea the pin outs on the 98 puter are diffrent…so the harness its self is diffrent.
