differences in LS1s?

hey guys,

anyone care to briefly describe the difference in the years of the LS1s?

a 98 + T56 is a couple Gs cheaper than a 01 + T56. is it just because of the LS6 Intake?

thx

01-02 have diffrent intake manifolds and smaller cams then 97-00

01-02 has revised exhaust manifolds that are much like shorty headers.

01-02 doesnt have EGR

01-02 has center bolt valve covers

Some 98s came with a larger vette cam

The only reason I would get a 01-02 is it saves time when you switch the heads not having to get new valve covers and coil pack brackets…

Rod bolts are weaker in 98s which might be probblem if you spin past 6800…Katech makes direct replacements.

98s have 28lb injectors…99-00 have 26lb…01-02 have 28lb.

thanks for the quick and dirty info

so basically if someone has the intentions of modding their LS1, it’d be pointless not to start with a 98?

You can get a LS6 intake manifold for $300…Your gonna end up putting headers on it anyways…and who cares what cam is in it because you will probbley swap that out also.

My main concern would be rod bolts…which you swap out with the motor out of the car…People have done in car rodbolt swaps…check LS1tech.

If you do a cam…spend the extra 130 and upgrade the oil pump.

thx

what about the 04 LS1

just save up 15 grand and you can buy a crate LS7

:bloated:

your name is DBZ related

shit i knew that

:bloated: @ myself

ill be fine with a 98… maybe even go el cheap route and get an lt1

Just say no to the LT1

yeah, DBZ…i’ve used the same screen name for a very long time. but those LT1’s are quite potent too. i almost bought a 96 ss camaro over the 98. steel block though…

LS1 is pretty fun. LT1’s just sound mean usually =)

im just considering selling my built mr2 to go back to my original intentions of building an FC LS1

just like weighing my options i guess

98’s alos have a bastard computer in them. the redheaded stepchild of electronics…and from having an LT1 and an LS1, spare yourself the trouble and buy the LS1. =)

Meh HP tuners offers just about all the same shit now for 98s…

just stay clear the 98s you’ll be fine… mod for mod Lt1’s aren’t too far behind :gotme: but they both have pros and cons, really its just your prefrence, good luck

adam, you are the biggest homo i know…i need to smack the crap out of you :lolham:

if you ditch the project after all the hype you gave me…maaaaaan im gonna slam you when you go BACK to mr2’s for a 3rd time :stuck_out_tongue:

meh LT1s suck…

And my crappy 98 LS1 does just fine…

Anyone want to enlighten me on the problems of Lt1s. I am working on doing a 96 Impala SS mosnter, and they are LT1 based. Should i swap for a Ls1?

Pros cons please, not opinions.

The only debate you will get from the LT1 folks is the fact they have an iron block…yay!

LS1s have a great ignition system…amazing heads the stock ones out flow ported LT1 castsings…great intake manifold design…

You can hit 400+ RWHP with bolt ons and a cam swap with a LS1…

The technology and power out put gets better from engine model to engine model LS2-LS1-LT1-TPI

Hmm, well if you know what firehawk853 has, i was essentially planning to clone that while adapting it for lt1 with some Juice. Since its retarded amounts of power.
If it is easier to do a swap and mod later i will do so. But i have to buy the car first.

:stuck_out_tongue:

just bored waiting for my engine :ham:

maybe ill do an lt1 fc for 3000 bucks and call it a day while i wait for the ATS engine that god lost :bloated:
