Digital Speedometer Mileage

Pretty much.

Let’s break it down:

My interior was once all blue/red (after doing an LED conversion). I am slowly demodding my car. I have sold my blue window switches, blue climate control, and blue hazard/defroster buttons. Now my speedometer is the only thing left that is blue/red. I want to sell it for profit, and use part of that profit to get a new speedometer which matches the stock lighting in the car. I can’t find one with similar mileage, which is why I posed the question. Seems like it’s doable with paperwork and a cooperating dealership. Problem solved.

My speedometer is not broken, not burned out, etc. etc. It just doesn’t match the rest of my car. To each his own, but I am big on things matching, etc.

Thank you those who posted saying it’s legally doable. I appreciate the help.

LED’ed interior:

The stock lighting is white/green (hard to see in this pic):

he is not altering a vehicles mileage, he is altering the gauge to read the proper mileage. I would think that this is different but sounds like more hassle than its worth

ya cant roll back odo legally ,what needs to be done is go to dmv with proof and they can enter a odo discrepancy form .doesent lower mileage but thats the only way it can be done legally

sorry john… its been done in cases where the cluster has failed in some way/shape or form. the body control module on some chryslers run through the cluster which requires they be replaced… a used or new cluster is sourced and the proper mileage programmed in. 100% legal.

sorry meant to say exc in those cases ,but the do it yourselfer cant legally do it esp on a car of that vintage seein as there is no mileage counter stored in the comp that can be read by a scanner thats generic

yeah you definitely still need a form from DMV to be totaly legal, comes with a sticker for the car too.

At least that’s what happened with my car.

besides ,your talkin to someone who does a g/m cluster almost daily so im still moreso in the know than u are lololo

correct. it needs to be done by a certified shop and all documented properly.

there is a paper trail that followes the car and its on carfax as a odo discrepancy

this is only if the new cluster can not be programmed to reflect the previous mileage. if the correct “actual” mileage is portrayed properly on the replaced cluster then a discrepancy form does not need to be filed.

EDIT:!!! however when purchasing a NEW cluster the dealership must account for the used one and forms filed in triplicate as to why a new cluster was sourced and what is being done with the damaged unit.

my jetta has mad low miles

yeah, the 74 year old woman who owned my car said it ‘read too slow’, it was noted on 6 different service orders before they just replaced it :rofl

no one, but everything has its price. just sayin i wish i had the right scratch in my pocket to make it mine. thats all.

haha just bustin yer stones kid

s’all good.

Good info Benny/John. I’ll make sure to do everything through DMV if need be, etc. if I even go through with this (or if I rip out the LED’s).

It can be done but you need proper documentation…

Has that been said yet?

Nope. Thanks Johawk. :rofl
