I’ve got a 97 grand cherokee. Well teh odometer got all fucked up. I would literally drive 1 mile and it woudl clock up 2. I couldn’t figure it out for the life of me. 60,000 miles later I took it to the shop where I bought it. “Ohh Yea it did that for us to” is what they told me. I made them get in there and fidn the problem, ti was some sensor that the wires turned out to be reversed. Anyways it’s fixed. But how do i clock back the miles now? I thought maybe thats what they tried to do, but I did do car ax on teh vehicle. I guess it was jsut a fluke accident. I did however just loose all my resale value on it, and I still owe some money. So how can I wind it back with it beign electrical?
u cant
all you can do is rig a kill switch into the wire for the speedo and odometer(same wire) and shut it off while you drive, you gotta be good at judging your speed though. that way you can make up for it by driving un-clocked miles
yeah a guy at my work had one of those on his Explorer. he called it his ‘drunk switch’ for obvious reasons…
If the GC runs a J1850 bus like most of the other chrysler cars up until 2005, the ODO is stored in the Body Controller OR instrument cluster computer AND the PCM. The PCM can be overwritten by a DRB-III or equivalent. The Body controller/cluster however, cannot. The Body Controller is what feeds the cluster the mileage if it does not store it itself. In that case, you have to claim its broken, and order a new one. you will need your VIN, and a friend at the dealership. However, even a friend cannot get a new BCM or cluster written with a lower mileage than the highest the DEALERSHIP has on file. Hopefully…they didnt put down 60K when you were in there.
i dont really know how it could be wired backwards since the sensor uses ac voltage to communicate with the body controller and engine ecu. sounds more like the transfer case was swapped and they they kept the wrong speedo gear installed.
the only way to change the mileage is to order a new speedo cluster from a chrysler dealer and the farthest it can be rolled back is till the last recorded event.
