What internet tier do you have and do you have home phone, I can’t see it being that high unless you have the high end 50/5 or whatever, but even then that seems high.
I knocked it down to 30x5 the other day no home phone…3 boxes and all the channels.
My parents have had Dish for years now at their place and they like it. I liked it when I was there back in the day. I think it’s pretty underrated.
I actually have TWC and I’m beginning to hate it. $140/month for an internet connection that’s decent at best and a programming package that is definitely not the highest rung.
I’m seriously considering cancelling cable and just keeping internet service and Netflix. Programming sucks these days anyway. The networks are seriously gonna give me shit programming like Storage Wars which costs $10 to make and then complain that they have to raise rates and pass the costs down to the end customer? Fuck that. That’s another topic for another day though.
I will aggre you get stuck in the 2 year contract with dtv, I was told $600-$700 to cancel and any amount of the months that was left in the contract that you cancelled… Neededless to stay dtv is here to stay for me, I’m switching to fios when it’s up, I have fios Internet now but no tv because of the contract I had opened with dtv, personally also I’ve had fios since it came out to hamburg/Eden/Boston area and the tv has improved but their dvr blows cock and balls
I bet I could guess lol
HDDVR Probably a HR22 or HR23. set up a service call and I can swap it out for a HR24. They are significantly faster and have more storage. Note you will loose all your dvr programing when it gets replaced. I typically work in the northtowns so if you don’t live in that area contact me before setting up service call.
I have not put my hands on the new TIVO box yet but when I herd they are build on the HR22 hardware I was disappointed. I can’t say anything bad about that box other than it is horribly slow, but I have a feeling it is poorly coded software causing it rather than hardware issues. Someone get a HR34 and PM me so I can get the job I want to check one out.
Breaking a contract with DTV is chargeable by the month so If you needed to get out with 6 months left it is not the end of the world but it will still be a few bucks for sure

Is your dish on a pole in your yard? If so it should be pretty fucking sturdy unless they didn’t put any concrete in the ground when they set the pole. I usually use 100lbs on our HD dishes unless I get bored and keep digging then some people get 150lbs. I am not too familiar with Dish network boxes but how are your signal strengths when you look them up on your box?
edit: DirecTV is years ahead of everyone else. As a tech it is difficult to keep up sometimes. They often drop new products on us out of the blue and then have training on it months later when they write the training material. It is definitely a ever evolving company.
Yeah, it is an R22-100. Can you hook me up with a better/faster one? ( I will pay obviously)
is it a R-22 or HR-22 there is a difference and if it is a R-22 I cannot do anything for you. If it is a HR22 I can replace it but you have to create a service order for me to do it.
edit: there is a door on the front left of the box flip it down there is a sticker with the model
Sorry HR-22-100.
5 tuners? 1 box? Man that shit is tempting. Seems like more and more shows are on at the same weekday time. Fuck these 2 tuner boxes.
I got out of the racket almost a year ago, but if anyone does go with Dish, let me know. I still know a bunch of really good techs that do shit right. No hack job shit.
And DTV isn’t that far ahead of Dish. They just like to rush unproven equipment out that’s buggy as hell. It’s probably their biggest downfall in my eyes. Seems they make that mistake time and time again. They want to get their new receivers out before Dish does and that’s what happens. Dish really tests the shit out of their stuff before releasing it. Probably why they’ve had the industry leading satellite receivers according to Consumer Reports (as well as other publications, tech shows, etc) over the best 5 or 6 years.
Edit: Dish doesn’t have MSG though and that sucks hairy testes. So if you want to follow the Sabres, definitely go elsewhere.
Dish blows a bag of dicks, I’ve never seen such poor features in a satellite box before with menu settings and also the picture sucks hairy asshole. I wish direct tv twc digital and fios allowed to get get the programs off your dvr that you record, or they allow you to dvr their stuff to your computer with a tunner card.
schedule your recordings for programs later in the evening. All of your major shows will repeat several times through the evening. You can usually make it work if you shift you recording times like that. it is a pain though so 5 tuners would be nice.

I would have to strongly disagree with DTV rushing equipment to market that is buggy as hell. I would like to hear some of the examples you might have. I have not herd that dish network has ever had industry leading anything…ever? I don’t read up in dish network though so I am curious. I have herd their DVR’s are faster that DirecTV’s though and that would be nice for anyone that does not have a HR20 or HR24 HDDVR
Working for DirecTV you have to understand that I get DirecTV propaganda so I know their system inside and out. I don’t keep up on other companies all that much so I would like to be educated if you care to share.

Yes I can replace that if you have a service call order set up. Just make it a PM appointment that is NOT on a sunday (I am off sunday) and expect me to be there late because you don’t live close to where I normally work.
:picard:
You can build your own DVR for cable MSO’s like TWC, Comcast and Fios quite easily if you are willing to spend a little bit of money to build a HTPC and get the right tuner. Get anyone of these below and rent the M-card from your provider (also you need a SDV tuning adapter for TWC/Comcast).
^ I stopped listening to him about the time he said Dish had crappy receivers and their DVR interface was horrible. When I had Dish their DVR and guide interface was by far the best in the business I can’t confidently say it’s light years ahead of time warner and a long ways ahead of Fios. I haven’t seen the most recent DirecTV one so I won’t comment there, but when you make blanket statements about how crappy Dish’s picture is and how bad their DVR is you lose all credibility in this thread. As someone who’s had Dish, TWC and Fios I’d put Dish and Fios picture quality on the same level and both are way better than TWC’s shitty over-compressed signal.
There were definitely issues with DTV receivers in the past. It was even brought up on here a bunch of times. Not sure how long you’ve worked there, but maybe before you started??
I think it was most prominent on the HR20s when they first came out. Maybe someone who was part of those discussions will chime in.
And yeah, go check consumer reports for the past 5 years. Do you really think your own company is going to tell you that their equipment isn’t the best out there??
I will admit I’m not really up on everything, and just go by my past experiences and knowledge of when I was in the field. But last I heard (last February) Dish was working on a super multi-tuner of their own (not sure of the actual number of tuners) as well as wireless HDMi for it. So while DTV may have a leg up on them right now, it more than likely won’t last. But that’s good for all of us consumers! Let the competition continue so we get sweet stuff!
I might actually be contacting you in the future about switching myself. Not being able to watch the Sabres is very irritating. If Dish loses one more of my channels, I’ll probably be jumping ship.
i have the hr-20 in my living room and the thing is stupid slow, is there any way i can get it upgraded for free?
You my friend do not listen, I was referring to dtv. You can not get or record with satellite with a tunner card been their done it. Also I have 2 htpcs and yes I use antenna to record local channels.
I retract my statement, I meant get your videos directly off the dvr not recording them threw a tunner.
It’s all opinion I have happened to have all services before. I use to hate direct tv, but then I learned how to point the dish it’s self…
let me know.

If you build a service call work order I can get it put in my name and change your box out. I don’t work sunday so don’t make a sunday appointment if you want me to come out. I need a couple days advance if you want me to do your job so I can make sure I have the newer receiver on my truck. Tell them you will cancel if you have to pay for a service call. If you have the protection plan tell them your TV goes out every time there is a cloud and when they have you read signals make up low numbers so they think your dish is out of alignment. They will not just replace a receiver at request or more specifically you can not request a specific model and any one other than a HR24 is going to be slower than what you have now. You could format it and see if it makes a difference but it is hit or miss if it will make a difference. + you will loose all your DVR stuff.
