Dish Network and startup costs...

I have just been doing evaluation on startup costs of dish network versus DirecTV. So far with DirecTV I have worse case $198 (1 HD-DVR, 1 HD, 2 Standard) but I should be able to haggle the standard HD box for free since there site advertises it free with rebate but when you had at the hd-dvr it doesn’t work.

Dish Networks configurator doesn’t quite let me do what I want. I was looking at the “Dish Everything Pack” with the 20 dollar HD pack. I want a VIP722 (to be used in single mode) a VIP222 for Master Bedroom and one other bedroom and a Dish311 for the last bedroom. (could also do a VIP722, VIP211, DISH322) pretty much I want the VIP722 in single mode for Dual Live Buffers and I want HD support in master bedroom. My question is what out of pocket if any would these setups cost?

Here is the setup it is giving me. I assume it is a VIP722 and VIP211. Also I notice on the charges it doesn’t include the DVR fee is there anything else that is missing?

Fuck movie channels for $40/month. Netflix or blockbuster online FTW. Get the same movies way sooner.

Then pickup a 100 disk spindle of dvd-r’s and start building your collection.

PM Carbonfiberhooded for dishnetwork questions. He is the man.

The reason Dish Builder won’t let you do what your trying to do is because Dish will only lease you up to four tuners. The 722 counts as two, the 222 counts as two, and the 311 counts as one. Thats five total.

Dish does have a new receiver known as the 612. Its an HD DVR for one TV, and still allows you to record one thing and watch another. Even though it is a dual tuner receiver, Dish only counts it as one in terms of the leased equipment. (It does only give you 200 record hours, but you could have two of them!!)

The Dish Builder probably won’t let you do this either but I’m pretty sure you could get two 612 receivers and a 722 or 222 receiver or a 322 (depending on how many HD TVs you have total.) That right there gives you 4 tuners (actually 6 total!)

As far as pricing goes, it would be $119 for the package you selected, $5 for each receiver over 1 (rec lease fee, so assuming you go with a 222 and 2 612’s it would be $10), and if you don’t have a home phone, there is a $5 charge for each dual tuner (722,222,322) not connected to a phone line. The 612 doesn’t have that charge. If you have a home phone, no worries. Or if you connect ethernet to the 722 or 222 it works that way too.

So your looking at about $129 a month with all HDs, locals, Top 250 and all four movie packs.

There is a $49 activation fee but I can take care of that for you.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks man one last question if i decide to stick with the two they select for me. How hard is it to change the VIP722 back and from dual mode to single mode? Mostly Dual Live Buffers is useful to me during sports seasons, useful in other situations but I could always switch and forth if it is easy enough.

My biggest thing is wanting to use the VIP722 in single mode to get Dual Live Buffers(just to make my point clear as in the Tivo sense of pausing a show and switching to another and pausing that and going back to the first paused shows).

I have 4 bedrooms with tv’s 1 is only hd at the moment but I will be upgrading my bedroom to some smaller wall mount tv probably.

^ I didn’t even know the 722 would let you do that. I’m going to put my 622 in single mode when I get home and see if it will let me.

On the 622 it’s a button on the front of the receiver. No idea why they don’t make it an option in the menus.

Yeah, both the 622 and 722 let you do just that. No problem as long as you have it in single mode.

Switching between both modes is easy. You do have to get off the couch though. I never understood why they don’t make it so you can select between the two from the remote.

Learn something new everyday :)… I digress though I read DBSTalk way too much
