Not sure if this has ever been discussed. Do you let anyone else drive your car?
I think I got this from my father but in my mind if you can’t share what you have been given then what is the point of owning it. Taking a ride in a fun car is one thing, but driving one is another. I don’t let strangers take the keys but if it is someone I know and I think they will be respectful then sure I let them take it for a spin.
The reason I bring this up is some of my friends treat their cars as a temple that only they can worship at.
I once let my girlfriend drive my crv for 5 months straight (I have another car). She returned it with a blown transmission. She didnt realize that you shouldn’t throw it in drive when it was still rolling backward. That was not cool.
Nice.
The only reason I wouldn’t let people drive a car was if it was unsafe. The torque can be a bit much. Luckily being a manual limits the number of people I would be comfortable driving the car.
Select few, and I typically prefer to be with them. It’s nothing personal, I just know it can “get away” from you easily and would rather be there to coach. You’re right though, driving and riding along are two different things.
I do it more for the fun of watching people try to figure out how to handle the stiff clutch. Agree with Choda’s comment, if the car is built to handle the abuse then nothing to worry about. If it gets wrecked, move onto another one.
