Do you let other people drive your cars?

Not sure if this has ever been discussed. Do you let anyone else drive your car?

I think I got this from my father but in my mind if you can’t share what you have been given then what is the point of owning it. Taking a ride in a fun car is one thing, but driving one is another. I don’t let strangers take the keys but if it is someone I know and I think they will be respectful then sure I let them take it for a spin.

The reason I bring this up is some of my friends treat their cars as a temple that only they can worship at.

Yah I let my friends drive my Viper and SRT-10 Ram.

Less people drive the Corvette because its hard to drive, plus it’s not done still. LoL

I drove his trans am once…

Just once.

no

Frost1280 drove my cobra once and dumped the clutch and it literally didn’t move, might as well have been powerbraking it it was spinning so bad.

I’m guessing Renzo has gotten in a race or two when he’s driven my car.

I encourage all these things.

Yeah I don’t care.

I once let my girlfriend drive my crv for 5 months straight (I have another car). She returned it with a blown transmission. She didnt realize that you shouldn’t throw it in drive when it was still rolling backward. That was not cool.

I let pitlord drive my 240sx at UB with the only stipulation “I better hear the tires when you are doing donuts” as I was outside a few lots over.

I let johnymontrose track my car with the only stipulation “bring it back without tread on the tires, or i will punch you in the dick”.

I’ve let strangers auto-x my car with the stipulation “drivers with no experience get first dibs”.

I really need to get together another novice beater.

Lol ^

About 7 yrs ago friend a had a sunfire, friend b wanted to see it peel out.

Friend b reversed to what was probably 30+mph and shifted into D.

Kaboom, it was wonderful to watch.

yes.

especially if I’m drinking, then i’ll let any sober person drive.

Only people with supercars and exotics don’t. Like Mini coopers, and 3000Gt’s.

Nice.
The only reason I wouldn’t let people drive a car was if it was unsafe. The torque can be a bit much. Luckily being a manual limits the number of people I would be comfortable driving the car.

Select few, and I typically prefer to be with them. It’s nothing personal, I just know it can “get away” from you easily and would rather be there to coach. You’re right though, driving and riding along are two different things.

I’ve let girls and friends and family drive my car. Simple instructions - gas, click, click, brakes. That’s a 10.5 or a 9.5. Lol

I’ve let a stranger drag my truck at nyi.

I build em to last. If they hold my abuse, I am very confident that they won’t sweat under someone else

I usually let anyone drive my stuff. Tons of people drove my lotus. The BMW i’m more leary about because it’s harder to replace.

I never like driving other people’s cars, though.

I do it more for the fun of watching people try to figure out how to handle the stiff clutch. Agree with Choda’s comment, if the car is built to handle the abuse then nothing to worry about. If it gets wrecked, move onto another one.

Not a chance, got my vote.

Agreed. Always drive with caution unless I am given the order to drive it like I stole it.

Im selfish

i find it hard to believe if you let someone drive your '55 and they somehow wrecked it that you would just “move onto another one”

i do not like driving other people’s cars because if something did happen i would forever feel responsible even if it was not entirely my fault.

This.

Almost anyone that asked to drive the miata was given the keys.
I really don’t care - it’s a car.

In the case you are some 19 year old lack wit like the average member here - not a chance. (hybridevo)
