The Glendale man who pleaded guilty to feeding a puppy coated in cooking oil to a red-tailed boa snake was taken into custody Thursday at the Maricopa Superior Court after failing to appear at his sentencing two-days ago.
Joseph E. Beadle, 40, will be held on $5,000 bond until his sentencing, which will take place May 29.He faces up to a year in jail and a $150,000 fine on one count of felony animal cruelty.
Beadle told Commissioner Frank Johnson that he was unable to attend his sentencing Tuesday in Phoenix because his car broke down. Beadle’s defense attorney Gerald Bradley said that he received two messages Tuesday from Beadle on his voicemail about his car problems.

Beadle surrendered Wednesday after a warrant was posted for his arrest due to his absence.
The commissioner mandated that if Beadle’s bail is posted, he be entered into an electronic monitoring program to track his whereabouts and activities. Beadle will also have to undergo psychological evaluations before his sentencing trial next month.
“This is just horrific behavior, and it will not be tolerated,” Johnson said. “It shocks my conscience that you did this not only to the puppy, but also to the two young children watching this.”
According to Arizona Humane Society spokeswoman Kim Noetzel, two 15-year-old boys watched as Beadle coated the puppy in cooking oil and then fed it to the snake. The snake bit the puppy, then coiled around it to suffocate the puppy.
The Arizona Humane Society will advocate for a punitive jail sentence for Beadle when he is sentenced in May, Noetzel said.
Also, an animal-related community service program will be recommended where Beadle can work with animals in a structured setting, she said.
No. And I don’t think Boas will eat cold dead food.
I have to agree with fairgentleman Z, if they are going to put this guy away, you’d better go out and lock up every pet store owner and owners of boa constrictors because they all feed live animals to these things all the time, mice or otherwise.

it would eat the puppy if it was still warm. alive or dead it doesn’t matter. you could hypothetically freeze a few puppies for later. then hypothetically boil them and the hypothetical snake would hypothetically eat them.
