Hey I was wondering if a bolt-in cage would pass tech inspection at lvd. If not will it pass if it was welded in?
Cover where its bolted in with your rug, they usually just go “Hey theres a cage in the car okay”. Never seen any tec open the door and check the cage.
Alright sweet. Like my car is ever going to go that fast anyway.
It wont if you run fast enough to require it… NHRA requires the cage to be welded, and to plates to the floor to a structure in the unibody/frame… Bolt-in cages are seen as “For show” items but will have to pass tech if it is seen in a car.According to most manufacturers, bolt-in roll cages are considered “Chassis Stiffeners” and not safety equipement (it indemnifies them from damages) I know SCCA has different rules on cages since they do allow bolt-in cages, but again, I think their used for chassis stiffening and not generally for safety since once your in a class requiring a full cage/bar, bolt-in bars are not allowed.
Yea lvd does not care what is in your car until you run an 11.49 or under
if i heard correctly the nhra rulebook hs changed on that time. due to faster production cars. i believe its 10.99 or 10.49 now. dont quote me though i havent looked into it to be positive.
They have not changed it yet but they are going to.Convertibles running 13.49 and under are going to need roll bars at least from what I hear
thanks for the info.
I know Adam or 94gt5.0 has alot of the updated rules
So it sounds like It will be good unless I run 9’s.AND WE ALL KNOW THATS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
i wouldnt worry about it, LVD is not very strict. they believed me when I told them my supercharged cobra had 280 hp
i went 11.3X’s all day with no cage, no BS from em at all. You’ll be aiiiight. Unless you plan on going to some legit tracks like E-Town, or Atco…
if you arent running deep 11s at 125+ youll probably be ok.
Yeah i go booted. Not cool.
Ricer…
=-P
Its true
LVD tech is a joke.
Got nitrous? No. Ok youre all set.
i get booted everytime! i hope they change the rules about cages.
Doubt they will change the rules.
they should! the way i see it is that chevy put countless amounts of $$ into making a car go 200mph out of the box and do low 11’s and high 10’s stock. its a little different safety wise then the 1955 chevy that joe blow built in his garage w/ a blown 454 and a roll cage. i wonder what one has more R and D or what is safer?? they deffinatly need to revamp the rule book a little bit.
