:( Don't know what to do (Review of my goals)

OK first thing first i just got my SR… Big mistake… My chassis in my personal opinion is shit. Second i have this problem, the boot in the lower right is torn… me being not very mechanically inclined in autos have no clue how to fix that. Im just going to drive the car for 2 months enjoy the sr and then probably in the winter/spring get all serious find a nice chassis and swap everything over and add all the parts that im buying right now. Oh yeah i don’t have power stearing so another reason why im going to get a new chassis that is 91+. Second i do not care one bit how the car looks but i do care about the quality of the car. So in a sense im building it to be a modest performance car. To tell you the truth i wouldn’t mind just handing it over to a shop and saying heres everything, do what it takes to install and get it running good but i really really want to learn autos as much as i can

Now that u have some background info here is my question

can i fix the boot?
is it worth fixing?
Any recommendations? in achieving my goal of a 300whp+ car with decent handling that can be taken to the track on occasion that is only driven a day or two out of the week.
Funds i don’t think i have much of an issue with especially considering i don’t need the car done till next may when school ends again
(more pics a 3 posts down

we will need mroe than one picture to help you

post up a bunch of them with flash on so we can see the real issues at hand.

donno how bad is ur chassis
but that boot is like 10 bucks…
and might take no more then an hour to change if u have the right tools

well , I had the same issue.
that boot does not really do anything, it just prevent dust from destroying the seals in the rack and pignon, My rack and pignon started to go bad 2 years after the boot was torn.
Order a new boot from nissan, I got mine from a rack and pignon while parting out a friend car.
remove the wheel , mark the tie rod. unscrew the tie rod end, break the clamps, pull the boot out , insert new ones, secure new boost with clamps, re-attach tie rod and you’re good to go.
that is what I have done, other people may have a different opinion.

ok more pics

That chassis is better than most. It will be hard to find a cleaner chassis.

taht chassi is fine

grinder will take all that rust off, theres not rot

there are no holes,
what are you worried about?
you want to get it fixxed cheap?
what a cheap paint job?
gimme a pm, ill hook you up with the guy who painted my buddies silvia convertible.

dude , hit the search button,
your jaw will drop when you see some of the other rotten chassis’s on this forum.

all those suspension peices can be sand blasted, or better yet upgraded.
check out bings multi link kits
or varuns megan racing ones.
good luck

Ok sweet guys… thank u!!!

if anyone wants to post on how to fix the boot then that would be great, but il make another thread on that probably or spend a little more time searching it

thanks, i guess u can close the thread, the public has spoken. she is fine!!! Woot!

I’d think about selling the car, the boot is not easy to change at all. But if you do fix it, good luck.

mark,
if its his first 240…its not so bad.

I’m not trying to say anything negative… but everyone knows about “the first 240”

remember yours?

your new car is like star compared to that thing.

Yup.

haha, i was just being sarcastic about the boot thing, that car is in pretty decent shape compared to most of the ones i have seen.

the car has no holes, i dont understand why you think there is problems.
my car is probably worse then that and i love the p.o.s

clean sr swap btw. did u do it?

i wish i did the swap… il pass on the good words to sasha :p. Well im just not used too a car covered in surface rust thats why. To me its a scary site.

This boot thing now is messing me up… one says its easy, another is telling me good luck?

It doesn’t sound to complicated… alright il take that good luck then and give it a shot
Anything to be careful of or is it straight forward.

I still have my first 240

I saw this car at SG and you really need to fix the suspension on it. It floated around like a 1980s cadillac when you pushed down on it. That is the first thing I would do. Secondly, get paint job.

dont worry, mark was just kidding about the boot swap being difficult

it’s extremely easy

might as well spend $100 on that whole section and do the boots and inner/outer tie rod as well. napa sells imported stuff for cheap and it gets the job done.

i looked up these prices for you because im bored at work

all from napa:

NCP 2691577
Rack & Pinion Boot Kit
$43 including tax

MRC ES2814
Tie Rod End - Outer
$19.50 including tax

MRC ES2277L
Tie Rod End - Inner
$27.50 including tax

you’ll need of each of course. I under estimated the price of the boots in my post above, I apologize. it will cost $180 after tax for everything

however you of course dont need to replace both boots if only one is ripped, that is your call.

also, these are my prices from napa, I’m not sure what the actual store will give it to you for it might be a bit higher.

if you are in the oakville area i can go pick them up for you at these prices for you anytime just let me know… its on my way home from work.

its all surface rust… nothing to fear… just get rid of it before it grows… ur car is still considered great for a s13… and it has all that stock stuff on it… change those stock struts and springs to something better to complement ur sr

Sounds good, i just need to decide on how hardcore I’m going to go with the suspension, i haven’t figured out all my options yet. Il replace the boot when i do the suspension then, which will hopefully be soon.

What exactly do i need and how much will it cost to get this suspension to perform well. I also need an LSD as well and coilovers are a must.

I like the ugliness of the car so no paint for now

thanks everyone and john for going the extra mile
