So cliffs…
cops heard something about donuts… Searched car and came up empty handed?

If this was in the suburbs you have to understand that these guys generally have nothing to do with ticket season being over,so to waste some time they are going to hassle you and hope that it pans out into something larger…you’re drunk, you have something illegal…etc
I can already feel this thread continuing on until my son graduates. He’s five.
this had to be the mckinley tops in hamburg, its the only tops i see you at… and just a fyi, a police office can search your car, they don’t need a consent to, been their and done that, with the cheektwoaga police before…
The cop just has to have “reasonable suspicion.” They usually just make something up anyway.
They can actually pull you over for no reason, just to give you a hard time, and say, “Oh, I pulled you over because you had that air freshener hanging from your mirror.”
They pull you over then find a reason why after.
Actually my 17yo brother just got a ticket in Hamburg for that. It wasn’t in place of any other violation either. Unless you count standing on a public street doing nothing illegal a violation. Wasn’t mouthing off either. The same little dick cop just hangs around the high school area harassing kids looking for something to bust them for, and he made it clear that he’d continue to do so. Word is he’s a new cop, and apparently won’t bother with anyone older who may know their rights. I lived in that town my whole life and never had anything bad to say about the cops there. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin the rep of all of the good cops out there. When you’re constantly harassed, and or severely talked down to by one of these guys (who obviously have deep-seeded issues), all of a sudden the people ranting about cops don’t seem out of line.
I kno pretty much ever hamburg cop as seeing I use to work with one at the now… Also the now is next to the village town hall you get to kno the cops their so, all I have to say to him is come at me bro…
A car can not be searched, unless you give permission. Or they see you have drugs, weapons in the open. Or they can impound your car, it then must be searched to inventory what was in the car.
what the hell did you just say?
I’d like to hear the audio before passing judgement. But regardless I hate seeing a persons right infringed upon. That being said, unless you were a dick, I feel badly for you.
Evan…You have outdone yourself this time!
reading posts from you make me want to hit myself in the head with a tack hammer
Apparently you’ve never been to Cheektowaga.
They can ask you to search your car…you can no if they threaten you with arrest if you decline you can get them in trouble technically.
They can search the area around you in the car if they are going to question you for their safety.
They can search your car if they have some reasonable suspicion.
I have when people do something illegal then try to find some reason to be mad at the cops…
+1 on this.
A development company probably owns the building that Tops is located in. They just lease it. The manager giving you permission to do something doesn’t mean jack shit.
I’ve been pulled over for my snowboard goggles hanging from my mirror. That was the exactly reason he gave me. “obstruction of view” I’m not complaining… just stating.
I’ve only had cops ask me to search my car during routine traffic stops twice. The first time I was young and scared and let them. The 2nd time I was older, wiser and far more jaded toward the type of cops who routinely get assigned traffic duty (usually the shittiest ones) and stood my ground and politely refused to give permission for a search. They threatened the BS impounding and I said they should go ahead and do what ever they felt they needed to do, but explained that I knew my rights and would be sure to follow up on any illegal search or seizure with both the town attorney and local media. At that point I was given my traffic violation ticket and sent on my way. The easiest way to lose a right is to simply surrender it.
In another decade or so these issues should all but disappear as bad cops are driven out of the job by the ever increasing spotlight of the citizen camera. The bad ones will fight like wounded animals backed into a corner but they will just lose in case after case like this one:
That’s what I was saying. They’ll always find something to justify reasonable suspicion if they really wanna pull you over.

All that is man.
I’m not one to generally back up cops, but come on man…you were doing donuts in a parking lot. It’s the same story as always…you give them a reason to be assholes, they will…
I like threads where people talk about their rights.
