drop ceiling fan?

do they make fans that fit in drop ceilings?

you have to bracket it to the real ceiling… but yes

.

make sure to hang the box from the structure (and not the tee’s of the ceiling)

Where do you want the air to come from? Plenum space (above the tiles)?

either way you can get one of the HVAC diffusers, length of pipe/hose and an HVAC duct fan. Connect the hose to the diffuser, add the fan and then run the other end to wherever you want the cold air to come from.

I think it would be easier to mount a conventional ceiling fan close to the ceiling.

are you piping away somewhere? or just letting it vent into the above the grid area?

in eithercase, just throw in a bathroom fan, they are going to require ~10A 110vac.

ah, i was looking at it as “blowing air out” to be venting out of your work space.

i want to pump hot air out of the room. i have a server in the corner of the room. i removed a ceiling tile and it helped significantly. im thinking a fan will help even more. i was thinking of just putting a box fan up there, but i dont know if that will piss off the fire marshal.

if you want shit to blow all over you, sure that will work, but I would not blow anything from plenum space, unfiltered. Your better bet would be looking and seeing what you have above there, if you have a VAV box, beg them to up size it to get more air.

EDIT: you posted, a fan will get the air out, but you need the air to go somewhere, preferably outside, but you can’t just stick a box up there, you are going to piss off the code inspectors if they ever come around, plus then you are introducing a lot of contaminant to the server room.

you want a fan to blow into dusty uncirculated air?

smart

there is 10’ above the drop ceiling throughout the entire building.

i want to blow hot air out of the room via this hole in the ceiling.

some of the building doesn’t have a drop ceiling… so it will only circulate to that area.

Call you HVAC tech and have them install the proper equipment, your going to dust that room or another one with air circulating in the drop, you need a true vent outside or a larger return to the server from the ac unit

oh, thought this was residential…

how is conditioned air getting into the space?
is the ceiling a plenum return?

it won’t, trust me, also you need to evacuate air from a hot zone to the outside, you can not blow hot air to another usable area. Get a ductless split system, or a mini split and just put it in there if you want to cool the room off

Non-residential - so most likely.

mmmm split systems… reminds me of the old country.
