are 5th gear housings known to break on 1st gen awd trannys? i see they are cheap new–like 50 bucks. just wondering what causes them to fail.
broke 5th gear?? geez musta been slammin that thing pretty good. very rarely will 5th go out on them, unless you were running low on fluid
I believe the nut on the 5th/reverse gear setup comes loose alot, people should take the cover off and check the nut on occasion.
As for the cover itself, never heard of any problems that were not self inflicted…ie prying it off with screwdrivers etc and knicking up the mating surface.
the cover itself is shit/cracked. all gears work. i remember hearing about the bolt backs out that holds 5th on. i dunno if that is the case here.
