e testing and getting plates

In order to obtains plates for a vehicle, what do you need? e test, certi and ownership. how old can the certi and e test be?

cert has to be within 30 days

e test within 1 year

Is that to get a sticker, plates or both?

that has nothing to do with plates or a sticker

to get a sticker you cant have unpaid fines,

plates, iono, just a drivers license?

you need the cert and etest to register a car in your name to plate it.

if you dont have those you can still register the car but it will have brand - unfit or something like that. you cant plate it until you make the car fit.

not sure if that goes next to brand but it might…iono…

Ok here is the situation, the car has an e test done in sept. if the car is bought, does the e test need to be done again in order to get plates and a sticker so it can be driven?

IIRC it has to be done (cert & emission) everytime the car changes owner…but I could be wrong…

You’ll also need the proof of insurance to register it, again IIRC lol…

if the etest was done in sept it is still valid… doesnt matter if you are registering the car and the test was done by previous owner.

if they argue, shoot them in the face with your ray-gun

The paper is valid for one year from sept. it has to be done again to change owners in less than one year? it seems that everyone has a different opinion. Bing, aren’t you in niagra, were things are different?

From http://www.driveclean.com

"A Drive Clean pass certificate is only valid for 12 months from its date of issue. A test is required for all transfers of ownership to protect all used car buyers from facing unexpected or costly repairs to the emissions system shortly after buying a vehicle. "

Were can i see that? please post a link to show this.

i just sold my teggy and the etest is good for one year even if u chage ownership i did it in october and my friend jsut bought the car and only needs to certify it to change the brand to fit

the e-test you have IS the etest for change of ownership…its good for a year…i’m right and everyone else is wrong.

otherwise people couldnt sell their cars e-tested unless they just paid for you to do it in your name. they get them e-tested months before-hand because the tests are good for a year. doesnt matter how many times you change ownership. so long as you have one when you do.

niagara is still in the province of ontario, driveclean is a provincial program (quebec doesnt have it), nothing is different here. but the escarpment keeps the precipitation out some times…yay

yup bings right same with the certified if hte previous owner just certify the car and u buy it with in 30 days its all good still how did htis get so complicated?

Yeah it’s good for a year even if you change ownership, BUT you have to have the actual paper… when I got my car I was hoping it would just be in teh computer from when Marc did it, but the guy is like nope your ass has to have the paper, so i wasn like fine dawg and then got it etested.
