So I have to get my car e-tested again. 1992 with SR20. Back on Dec 29 2005 I had an e-test done and put the car on the road. The car was tested under “hotrod” status, no problem. Passed. So now I get my sticker renewal in the mail, go down to the licence office on Jan 15th 2007 only to dicover I have to have an e-test done to get the sticker. Did I miss the 2 year cut off by only 2 days? Dec. 2005 - Jan 2007. Or are “hotrod” status cars required to have one done every year?
honestly, I think there’s some bug in the MTO’s system… when I renewed by license plate sticker this year, I should have also done an e-test (since it’s been 2 years already) but I didn’t get that the mail at all… so basically, I’ll have my car for 4 years and I will only have one e-test on it.
Although I could be wrong, but I do know that I didn’t have to do an e-test after 2 years… and some people get that notice in the mail every year… no idea why.
Etests don’t go by year of test. It goes by year of vehicle. Odd year cars get tested in even years, even year cars get tested on odd years.
The cefiro is an 88 and needs to be tested this year and every 2 years from here on out…So don’t bitch i missed out by 1 year.
oh, and your etest paper is only good for 12 months.
You are a little wrong buddy…
Etest is good for 6 months “if you try to resell the car” and 2 years while you own it yourself.
Example… my car is a 92 so its an even # year or what not. So say this year was even # vehicles, but I had my car tested last year, then I do not have to re-test my car this year. But next year I will.

To clear this up further: June 05 i had the cefiro tested and registered. My birthday is in Jan, so thats when the plates need to be renewed. At that time i got a 1 year sticker. I didn’t renew it; because i only drive 4 months a year until august 06. I went down to the MTO in jan 07 thinking my etest is good for 2 years, it doesn’t expire to JUNE 07! SWEET! i don’t need a test for another year. Wrong, because 2 stickers had been used and the car is an 88 it was required to be tested this as it’s 2007.
Even cars odd years.
If anyone would like to argue this please feel free to call your local MTO.
doesn’t matter wat u use teh etest paper for
its gd for 12months…
and afaik they don send out etest mails nemore, instead on the licence reminder letter, there will be a mark on the side of the listed vehicle that needs a etest inorder to renew the plate
but i heard that cars that are 15yrs and older needs etest done every year now…
not too sure about this since its been a long while last time i do it
personaly imo it doesent matter as long as it passes and i can drive it. i don;t care how long the test paper is good for once its got a pass, drive it. sure youll have to get one done again… but thats the way it works… just do it when they ask for it… i bought my car on an even year the car is an Odd year so i had to get one done to change owner ship, the next year it had to be done because thats when it was schedualed by the mto. Then i bought a truck on and odd year the truck was an Even year so it had to be done to change ownership, then the next year i had to get it done for the MTO … to make a long story short ive got e-tests every year for as long as i own these two vehicles… meh as long as they pass doesn’t matter … oh by they way my sr in my 240 passed Better then my pathfinder…
I heard the changes starting this year mean
1987 and prior = exempt
1988 and newer but 12yrs or older = annual
less than 12yrs = biannual
less than 5yrs = exempt
but I haven’t read the current rule book or the specific dates the clauses come into effect
