Here seamus… heres a little experiament you can do to learn how a short shifter works…

Take a pen between your thumb and index at about the middle of the pen… Draw 2 dots on a piece of paper about an inch or 2 apart…now start moving it back and forth from one dot to the next… now start to move your thumb and index finger closer to the bottom of the pen…

Now this is where you have to pay attention… it gets really tricky… the further you move your fingers down (Changing the pivot point) the bottom of the pen is still move the same distance but the ammount of travel towards the top is more spaced… but if take your thumb and finger closer to the top of the pen the the ammount of travel at the bottom is the same… but the ammount of travel at the top is less…

This is why short throw shifters can only reduece the throw so much… they have to change the pivot point… the more they move it the longer the bottom part of the shifter that sits in the tranny…

and the more it changes the angle of the selector/linkage, that’s the argument for the other side, which can be detrimental.

Which makes sense as well, it really just depends on the stock shifter design to determine if it can be improved with a ssk.
