are these ok just for the sole purpose of lowering? i dont have a lot of cash and i want to lower a bit im not looking for any improvement in handling or anything. Do you think these things would actually just break? I was told that i would need new shocks also even with a 1.5" drop. True? If so im buying Tokico blues and thats y i will have to buy ebay coilovers.
Situation 1: I dont need shocks and i buy Skunk 2 or Ground Control Springs.
Situation 2: I need shocks and buy Tokico Blues and have to buy ebay coilovers.
I would be very afraid to cheap out on such an important component of a car… a cheap strut bar is one thing; it can’t fuck anything up… but imagine your “coilover” breaking…
i’ve had over half a dozen “ebay” coilovers. One set was on my personal car for over 3 years. I loved them, they did not sag, they did not weaken. Although, you need to watch which “ebay” ones you buy. Some are more generic than others. The best ones i’ve found so far on ebay are “Tom Motorsport”. They seem to have it figured out pretty well as far as spring/sleeve setups go. Which ones are you looking at? I could tell you for sure if they are poop or not.
you wont need new shocks for mild lowering with any coilover. Try to buy a coilover that has spring rates identified. The only reason people consider them junk is b/c they buy the cheapest ones that dont factor spring rate in. The ONLY reason skunk2 or ground control’s are better is because they do more research in what each car needs in a spring rate. I ordered ground controls for an old z32 i had a while ago. They specificly asked me what shock i was running…i said stock, they said cool. I got them, all it is is the springs. They are the same if not MORE POORLY designed than other spring/sleeve setups on the market. Trust me, all i do is coilovers and i’ve had lots of experience in this area… i could go on forever
rule number one… the more vehicles they claim they fit, the worse off you are. They may infact “fit”, but they are far from being “for your car”. Definitly stay away from those. Next, look for differences in the springs and purch’s. If they all look the same, then most likely there is no engineering that went into making them for your car. Take this one for example:
at least the sleeves are different, must mean that there is some type of thinking going on here. IM not saying that anything on here is legit…we are just aiming for the least ghetto
these like i said are my personal favorite…even though this guy is raping you on shipping, they are the nicest to install and actually have spring rates on them so u know what you are getting. I’ve done 3 of Tom’s kits on a civic, integra, and a focus and they were all respectable.
ya, i almost always have used them with stock shocks. The only thing is, if you go down too low, there is a 50/50 chance teh shox will blow and leak fluid. But if you are just going down a bit, then it shoudl be ok.
