im putting together this gsr… i run in some arp’s and get ready to clean the deck surfaces to lay the head on when i notice the sleeves… All i know is the motor has normal high honda miles on it and smoked a HG once. See if this looks like a problem to you or not:
This motor is getting probably 10lb of evoIII, so im hoping its not going to come apart on him.
Liners coming out? A problem? Why yes, yes it is.
How many thousanths is the sleeve above the deck? You could deck it and see if the separation is still there. I can’t imagine it’ll hold boost for very long though.
Wow I dont think I would trust that…
I measured a smidge over .002" in some spots…
I forgot, this also has a set of new aftermarket oe size pistons in it. I’d guess there’s more history to this than meets the eye…
Wow. Never saw that before. I would not trust that. I bet the sleeves crack apart under some detonation.
i’ve seen it before. i think severe overheating causes it, with the different rate of expansion of the steel and aluminum
i have seen it befor as well, and rusty you are correct. Thats why the previous head gasket nuked, and you will continue have sealing issues untill its decked. Ask Denny he prob would know if its safe to use under boost. I would try to find another block or get the customer to spring for sleeves! … ill buy that block if you dont use it …
motor was “supposedly” rebuilt about 10k before the owner of it now got it.
That sucks…think dev will go for sleeves?
let me know if you guys need sleeves, we do darton sleeves in house, have a bseries tq. plate, the whole 9 yards
I think it should stay together for him. If it smoked the headgasket that bad, then that would explain it… makes perfect sense. This winter he’s talking about sleeving, so if it happens i’ll keep you in mind griz.
ah shit if its for devin just slap that bitch together. Dum Dum Blum will just blow it up again anyways lol
hahaha!!! glad to know im not the only person who thought that
Yeah, you’re talking about Devin who a few years ago started his car and was revving it to hear the BOV, without any oil lines connected to the turbo. :kekegay: And he didn’t understand why that wasn’t such a great idea.
Well im glad we all concur…there is your answer j
