Engine not starting

So here it goes.

I tried starting my ka24e today after a timing chain install and no luck. It turns over but my room mate says it’s sounds a bit weird like timing is off or something.

When i did my timing kit install, i lined up everything properly at TDC, so i don’t think there’s a problem internally. The only thing we were talking about is that the oil pump and distributor might be misaligned on the crankshaft which would cause a shitty timing. I just don’t know if you can fuck up the timing if you misalign the oil pump by only one or 2 teeth on the gear when putting it back. I thought you only had to line it up with the distributor shaft and you can’t fuck that up because of the half-moon design on both shafts.

We tried just retarding/advancing the distributor a lil bit and no go.

I got spark and fuel but when i took my spark plugs out they were wet. So that means there’s no proper ignition.

Also, i got my exhaust off and we were seeing some nasty fireballs coming out the exhaust manifold when cranking and some weird noises. Like you would hear a “blooop” sound and see a fireball come out.

It was my first time doing a timing chain so maybe i fucked something up. I’m pretty sure i followed everything by the book tho, but who knows. Maybe a stupid detail somewhere i overlooked.

For now, i think i’m just gonna pull out the oil pump and see if anything is wrong there.

Any input is welcome.

hey i have run into the same prob when i did a timing set on my hardbody p/u and it sounds like you need to pull your distributor and re align it again, also befor you put it all back together did you turn it over by hand and make sure all your timing marks lined up again?

I did that before putting the timing (front) cover back on. I also made sure to put the crank pulley on the TDC mark as well. The marks on the chain were aligned with the punch marks on the cams. Everything was fine regarding this.

Tonight i’ll pull out the oil pump and check if the punch mark is aligned with the oil hole, cause i think that might be my problem.

Thanks for the heads up tho.

Ok today, i pulled out the oil pump, realigned everything properly and rotor was pointing at 4 o clock. So i guess i had the oil pump 180* degree off before. But STILL, it’s not starting up. I hooked up a timing light while cranking and it doesn’t show timing marks at all. So that means it’s off by a shit load. Which is total bs, because i know i put everything back together by the book. My chain is aligned properly on the gears (different colored links on the punchmarks), otherwise my valves would be toast by now. The oil pump shaft is aligned properly and so the rotor is pointing at #1 on TDC. SO WTF??!!

I don’t know what’s up at all. I need somebody that knows about KA24E’s to come over and check this out with me and Kam cause we can’t figure anything at all. This shit is pissing me off real bad cause i did everything like the fsm says.

i think you disrtibutor or wires are fubar… if the plugs are wet then there not firing at the right time obviosly… try seting your distibutor to #4 and se if that helps… ive seen guys do this and mix up the order of the Cap alot of times… are you sure the cap is on right, like did you mark the EXACT position before you removed it?

You cant install the cap wrong. If you try installing it 180* off, the screws don’t line up anymore. One of my friend is bringing a dizzy on saturday, we’ll see if it’s that or not.

check this out

are you sure it is tdc on compression stroke, and not exhaust stroke?

I did everything on there.

Face, i installed everything on TDC #1 and #4 pistons all the way up. Fuck… it must be on exhaust stroke then…
