I am wondering how I would go about figuring out what engines can be swaped into the 1990 s13. I can do research on the different engines, parts needed etc. but I have no idea what I am looking for when figuring out what can be put in. For eg. is engine bay size the only issue? what “parts” must line up with the chassis? what engines use the same transmissions? etc etc. Can anyone help me with info?
From all of this, I am really wondering if it is possible to swap in a 7mgte. I have seen them for way under 1000 and figure that would be a seriously cheap engine swap. Is this even possible? How can I go about finding out? Thanx
You will need new engine and tranny mounts. I’m sure if the RB fits in the S13 bay, then the 7MGTE should as well. The 7MGTE’s are cheap because of the age and also because of the reliability of the headgaskets. Will it really be worth it in the end?
The head gasket thing is due to incorrect torquing specs in the manual. This is common knowledge in Supra circles. Getting a metal one is better anyway though. This engine will stomp most things in its price range. Great choice and one of my favorite 240 ideas. Mild mods might have to be executed to the tunnel to get the tranny bell housing to fit smoothly. Sledgehammer comes to mind.
Before the naysayers come out of the woodwork, lets just say that this will stomp SR20det’s to dust and is easily the equal of the RB25det in capability. By the time you get an RB25det in the car and running(pricewise) you could have a 450whp 3.0L massive torque wangan monster.
