I recently aquired a 1973 MG midget. Its been stored for 21 years and it has a blown motor. I’m thinking about just trowing in a better more reliable motor and tranny. I would like to get some ideas from yinz guys dahn here.
I’m thinking, nissan sr20det engine and tranny, painless wiring system, and a ford 8 inch rear end. This might be too much power for an MG.
It might fit. I’m gonna need more info. What are the dimesions of this engine? Length? width? height? you’re probably the person to ask about these engines.
cool. I’m stripping the interior and the engine bay in the next 2 months. i gotta find out how much room i have to work with. Right now i cant even open the hood. the latch is just stuck, soakin in PBblaster right now.

my girls father has an old MG. not quit sure which model but he got it set up for racing. its completely gutted. back in the day he would do highway runs with it. it has somewhere around 230hp. they also widen the rear wheel wells so he could fit larger tires… he waiting to fix it up sooner or later. but you can get some power out of that motor. he said back in the day alot of cars had a hard time running with him. being he was so lite
the after market for these cars original 1275cc engine was pretty big. Its just really pricy. you can get a crate motor and tranny pushing 170 hp supercharged for $7.5k. I figure a v8 swap might cost less than that.
