Ideas for a motor swap.

I recently aquired a 1973 MG midget. Its been stored for 21 years and it has a blown motor. I’m thinking about just trowing in a better more reliable motor and tranny. I would like to get some ideas from yinz guys dahn here.

I’m thinking, nissan sr20det engine and tranny, painless wiring system, and a ford 8 inch rear end. This might be too much power for an MG.

lt1 or ls1

3.8 camaro motor

MG’s already had the 302 in them or maybe the 289 called the sunbeam tigers. so that is definately something that can be done.

or buick V6 turbo or a GTP s/c 3.8 would be pimp shanizle hooked up to a T-5:eek:

my girls father has an old MG. not quit sure which model but he got it set up for racing. its completely gutted. back in the day he would do highway runs with it. it has somewhere around 230hp. they also widen the rear wheel wells so he could fit larger tires… he waiting to fix it up sooner or later. but you can get some power out of that motor. he said back in the day alot of cars had a hard time running with him. being he was so lite

the after market for these cars original 1275cc engine was pretty big. Its just really pricy. you can get a crate motor and tranny pushing 170 hp supercharged for $7.5k. I figure a v8 swap might cost less than that.

How about a Ford 2.3 turbo? I’m sure you can get one pretty cheap, it’s a lot lighter than a V8, and 200hp would be pretty easy.

now i’m thinking built toyota 2tc w/5speed tranny, dual weber side draft carbs. bla bla bla

LT1 AUTO 53K $2000.00!!!

that would be too fast for him:D

i wish. it cant fit without moving the firewall back a couple of inches. probably.

How big is a 4.3 v6 from an s 10?
