I don’t see why he couldn’t. If you haven’t already, put a stronger timing belt on, as well as a thicker mls (multi-layer steel) head gasket and head studs for some security if you plan on any future turbo upgrades :nod
Thinking about having it planed to make up for the extra thickness of the 1.2mm Cometic gasket I just bought from Eric’s Performance in CA.
ARP Head Studs run around $140-ish, and I’m planning on doing cam seals, valve cover gaskets & semi-circle plugs. Not sure how long it will take to pull this thing apart but I’m starting tomorrow.
Turbo and manifold need to come off, intake mani needs to come off, all vacuum lines need to be removed. I need to document everythingcuz I have no idea where anything will go back.
As far as a stronger timing belt, that’s gonna hafta wait. HKS belts are $140ish, GReddys are $140is, and Tomeis are $200ish. When I do that is when I can afford the cam sprockets too. Fidanzas are $260ish and HKS ones are $320ish. I really don’t have that kinda dough right now. My mother gave me a check for $175 just so I could buy the gasket.
It wouldn’t be that hard to fix a warped head, just send it to a head repair shop. They’ll mill it flat and clean it for around $130.
Got any good recommendations? I’ve heard Boyd’s in Johnstown/Gloversville can do it and so can a guy named David Gall.
Heads Up Inc. in Auburn, Washington is the only shop I’ve dealt with so i can’t help ya there.
Hey man, didnt check this thread until now, thats a nice whip u got
My brother has had some heads decked by Dave as well as some cylinders bored/honed by him. Good work I thought…
How do I get ahold of him? One of my customers at the bank, Kris Govel, recommended him, but wasn’t sure how to get ahold of him. You have his number?
372-7177
He is getting alot of nissan work this year, my car, your car hooked car, and a couple sentras.
Awesome. Thanks!!
Kris Govel is my brother, I’m his younger brother George.
Hahah that’s awesome. He mentioned his brother had some work done by Dave. What a coincidence. Who knew? I’m Ernie, his banker.
Gotcha, are you the kid with glasses at the Central Ave 1st Nat’l Scotia? Or do you work at NBT?
hahah the one with Glasses at 1st Nat’l lol
Once you get that back together send me a message on myspace or what not. I’ll get the car running the way it’s suppose to be. You can modify it as you need form there.
you need to post more cause your sig is awesome.
That’s sick, right? His TT should have an extra “T” for “Transformer”
Rando, you got great advice man. I’d love for you to help me out.
Okay. So yesterday and today I spent about 6 or 7 hours total ripping the top of the motor off. Got the turbo off (left it attached to the exhaust - it will be easier to take the manifold off once the head’s off), the valve covers, the cams (unneccesarily, I later found out), timing belt (which has a slight tear in it - more money $$ to spend) and all the plugs/coil packs/vacuum lines/fuel lines/plugs etc. I also took the wheels off and replaced them with the stockers. Who konws how long this thing will be outta comission.
Got the 14 head bolts out and tried getting the head off. It wouldn’t budge. So after further inspection, I found there are 3 more bolts (see where I’m going with this?) next to the spark plugs in cylinders 2, 4 & 5. All the 14 bolts and these 3 bolts have Allen key holes, not bolt-type 6-point socket stuff. WELL…those 3 bastards are either seized or I should have used an impact. Didn’t think about the impact because the first 14 came loose with some serious leverage and some elbow grease. So needless to say all 3 are now rounded out after a couple feeble attempts at breaking them free.
So I’m thinking Eazy-Outs are in order but I may have to drill the bolt out completely to the point I where there is no serious substance left to them and pull the head off then.
…sigh…
Anytime. I only live like 15 min away form you. It’s just tough for me to get free time anymore. I’m trying to finish my BA and I work nights, the rest of the time I’m chasing after my 2 boys.

Here’s another one I made for someone a while back. The colors are not right because I never finished it. IT’s a Nissan SE-R
