ErnGotti's RB20-swapped '91 Nissan 240SX Coupe

My landlord has a straight edge tool for times like this. We are gonna put it on to make sure the black isn’t warped. If it is then I gotta have the block shaved too :idiots

If you mean, Does the head gasket I have match the one I took off? Yes it does. I put one on top of the other and vice-versa. Any suggestions on cleaning the old gasket remnants off the block and the water/surface rust out of the cylinders?

Alright, here’s the deal:

I brought the head to Haybereck’s Diesel & Machine shop to have the head planed and something serious happened. He originally said he was gonna need to take .003-.005" off the head. But one he put a straight edge to it he said it needed .025-.030" :ohnoes

He explained how the cam seats are most likely warped too, i.e. the whole head is twisted. He said somewhere between $420-$450 to disassemble, heat treat, and align it “as best he can” (not good enough for me). I said just smooth out the bottom and I plan on putting this money pit back together and selling it for as much as possible.

sorry just came across this randomly…if the head is off that much and it’s decked, when you torque the head down the cam bores will be out of alignment and the camshaft can lockup and do major damage, if it even rotates at all…just a warning to you… 25 thousandths is a huge amount that requires align honing cam journal bores after decking, never mind the other issues revolving around removing that much material from a head.

Is the block flat? Try and get another head on NICO or something.

just put the car out of its misery… :lol :ninja

srsly, get rid of the rb20

/your problems

I had the head planed 28 thousandths. It is perfect now. He was just assuming the top would be warped, based off experience I presume, but when he actually took a straight edge to it and measured, he said everything wasn’t as bad as he originally expected and that there’s a good chance the head bolts, once properly tightened, will straighten everything up. Who knows. I’ll get it running again. And then determine if I’m gonna sell it or just sell it lol ;D

this time get another 240 but get it STOCK.

then swap a motor of your choice in it.

There is a (near) mint 240 coupe SE in craigslist, somebody please buy it.

:idiots

Thinking I shouldn’t sell it?

You could sell me the coupe shell for mad cheap

Cliff is right. Up until recently the only engine issue I had was the idle. It was the car itself that was the issue. Really the only completely good things on the car worth mentioning are the steering wheel, taillights and the spoiler.

eh ok. I’m just looking for a s13 coupe SE or 1995 S14 that has a mint body on it, no rust. I don’t care about anything else.

everyone knows RB20 is as big a headache as ca-18

Dropped the head off to get the one broken stud drilled. Gonna save up and get a bunch of new gaskets: Cometic intake manifold, intake collector gaskets, exhaust manifold gasket and throttle body gaskets. Also new semi-circle plugs and valve cover gaskets. Also, I’m gonna disassemble the intake manifold, bore it out best I can with a Dremmel, and soak the injectors real well and then start putting everything back together. I have a guy who may let me park the car in his large, unused garage all winter. That would be spectacular. Easy way to work on it!!

you know, from all this money spent you coulda got a rb25 swap. or sr with 1500+ to work with.

None the less, Good luck

All this money? The head is getting drilled for free, the shaving was $72.00, the head gasket was $173.00…labor: free. And as far as repairs for the MOTOR other than this stuff, all I did was put an $80.00 water pump in it and a $138 clutch. ALL the other money I’ve put into this car has gone into the CAR, not the motor. Master cylinder, brakes, wheels, exhaust, gauges, fuel lines/pump, etc. And the only money I spent that could be considered unnecessary is the BOV and wheels.
