Nothing like a grand in profit for a days work. Can take some time to run gas line, and cut hole for vent pipe. Simple change outs only take 2-3 hours with two guys.

For some reason my electric water heater won’t work in a power outage either. Piece of shit…

Gee why is that?? :smash2:
ya said you were running a gas line. I ASSumed you were looking for a replacement that ran off gas
I’m gonna have to rethink that whole Fry is an intelligent dude logic
A co-worker is currently getting a new furnace and a/c unit. The furnace I believe he said he can get around 450-500 back from the government if he gets a 95% efficiency unit and the a/c unit another 200 or so.
I overheard him discussing it yesterday.
For those interested aka starter home owners:
I got quotes from Capital Heat, Noco, and Adema.
Capital Heat - $2969 including Amana 95% efficient 2 stage burner 70k BTU, bringing gas line into the house from the meter and plumbing everything else I need, nothing I don’t. The guy seemed sharp, answered all my questions, everything he suggested added up.
Noco - $2848 for the exact same furnace, except a Goodman label instead of Amana. The guy wanted to pipe the exhaust right outside the side door. :bloated: Kinda tried to bullshit me on staying with oil. :gotme:
Adema - $3383 for again the exact same furnace. Except the dude was at my house for maybe 5 minutes, didn’t look things over real well, couldn’t give me a quote on the spot. He included a new thermostat which I do not need. He included new RF smoke detectors on each floor and in each bedroom, which I do not need.
Despite NOCO being $120 cheaper, I’m going to call Capital Heat on Monday and schedule the work. Maybe he was just a better salesman, but for $120 I’m going with the guy who seemed more competent.
Id also suggest giving Superior Heating and Cooling a call. I just had a new furnace installed by them and they seemed very knowledgeable and professional. I would say they should be right around the same price range your looking at.
My buddy works at capital as an intaller.I know they do good work from what iv seen him do.
Fellas.
I should start charging people for my money saving ideas. I swear to God.
Type gas furnace into ebay, there are many HVAC dealers that sell direct and will ship to your house.
Then type tankless hot water into ebay, you can get a titan shipped to your house for 228, free shipping.
We just put one of these in my buddies house, works excellent.
Now put an add up on craigslist, for a certified HVAC guy to come and install both units in your house, pay him cash and call it a day.
Any HVAC service out of the phone book makes a healthy profit on the equipment, and the labor, plus they charge you tax on both.
I bet you can do the heater, and the hot water tank for around 2 grand installed.
Buy me a beer or something when you get it all in.
Also I highly recommend getting the new heater ready for an AC unit when they are installing it.
Having a warranty and the resources of a large local heating company a phone call away, day or night, is more important to me than saving some cash on something as important as a furnace. I think you’ll agree when it’s 10*F with the wind howling in another month.
I have the cell phone and home phone number of the president of Capital Heat on my desk right now.
Regarding the water heater, I wouldn’t put ebay stuff on my car so I’m sure as fuck not putting ebay stuff on my house. Especially on something that could very easily burn the house down, like a 50+ amp 220V electric heater. Check some of the reviews:

lol you put a single one of these in a house?

Has it been in through a winter yet? If not I hope he’s looking forward to his lukewarm showers.
Hey Fry, Im not sure how much digging youve done in regards the water heater but you can buy a power vented heater and vent it the same way you do your high eff furnace
Yep, they’re about $600 bucks. I may go that route.
You know it all dude, go for it.

Not trying to say I know it all, just explaining why I’m willing to spend more.
As for the water heater, sorry. Maybe it’s fine for him. Not something I want to try.
I helped my brother install a 95% 90k btu unit in a crawl space over the weekend. Included drilling a hole threw 12" of block/concrete for the 2" exhaust line, condensation pump, all supplies (flex gas line, sheet metal for duct, pvc, power switch…). We even hung the unit from the joist on its side because the crawl space wasn’t high enough to stand it up. Total $2400. (95% 90k btu unit is more expensive than a 95% 70K btu unit)
I guarantee we could have had a new unit already in for AT LEAST $500 less. Get better service, warranty, and be able to call him 24/7 if you need service work.
Sorry man but your getting ripped off at $2969.
I know you like to have certified this blah blah shit, but if you still want to call my bro for a quote you wont be disappointed.
