Exciting free extras for DirecTV customers

DirecTV integrated pandora internet radio in with their service yesterday. It has not completely rolled out yet but over the next few days you will see pandora in your extras tab when you press the menu button. About a year ago when DirecTV dropped XM radio and went to sonic tap to provide music I was not pleased because the sound quality on sonic tap sucks. One of my recievers took the update that enables pandora this afternoon and the audio quality is outstanding!!!

You must have a HDDVR that is internet connected or the rare R22 model “standard def” DVR that is internet connected.

Enjoy

I have the HR24 with that little wifi doo-dad that is daisy-chained on…I assume this will work with that?

The new HDmenu is phenomenal.

+1

Nice, unfortunately it’s too little too late for me…just had some shady as fuck dealings with Direct. My parents had a 4 TV setup with the most expensive package and all the movie channels because my dad wanted it. He passed away last year. My mom doesn’t watch it and couldn’t afford the expensive package on her own. She explained the whole situation, offered to produce a death certificate, and they still wouldn’t let her out of the contract without a big ass ETF. This is the ONLY company that gave her trouble…Cell phone, gym membership, utilities, etc. terminated contracts immediately when they heard what happened.

That’s pretty shitty, very shitty actually. I would have went up the chain till I got them to budge, which in my experience wasn’t very difficult, though it wasn’t a cancellation so not the same thing.

I love their service and the new menu. I haven’t had issues with their support or staff myself, hopefully what happened to your Mom is a rarity.

 love it

What they need to work on is the lag of the whole-house DVR functionality. Can access the family room list from bedroom but its slowww.

yes. as soon as you get the new software version (if you don’t have it already) it will pop in the extras tab in you menu

If you go up the chain it will get handled. believe it or not the fastest way to get anything dont like that is to write a letter and mail it in. I emailed engineering 6 months ago stating there was a demand for a internet streaming program such as pandora. BAM here it is. It could be unrelated though. When we have a customer write a letter and send it in to DirecTV it is like smashing a wasp nest with a hammer at our local office.

It will get better with time but there is a massive amount of data that the DVR has to handle and send with perfection. I would just be happy it works at all lol and that is coming from a tech

so iv had Dirtctv for a few years now is there anyway i can switch 2 of my receivers to whole house dvr?

I’m not seeing this… do I need to force an update?

you can call and see what they will do for you

I’m not seeing this… do I need to force an update?

you cannot force this update. It has to be issued by DirecTV to tell your receiver to take this specific software version.
